I have finally got around to taking and posting pics of my 1:72 Airfix Lancaster built OOB as a gift for my father in law. I thought it was the bees knees when newly completed but having viewed the quality of the work being posted here I realise I have a long learning curve ahead. This was finished prior to the F15 so I guess this qualifies as my first model (after a long break). Please don’t look too closely at the seams and yes I know the ailerons have a severe case of brewers droop! The base is just Polyfilla over polystyrene and painted - it is meant to symbolize the Dover coast. All airbrushing was with Badger200 and the camouflaged upper surfaces were sprayed freehand.
well i think u r a perfectionist…
because that is a great looking build and very well photographed too.
Why i like your build…
1)good paintwork
2)realistic(to me) exhaust staining
3)terrific base
4)aircrew included
=) thanks
Thanks Obiwan for the complements - my wife calls it obsessive compulsive!
Very nice build, Simon. I didn’t notice any problems with the seams, even with you pointing them out. Great job on the painting and weathering.
Mark
Very nice work on the venerable old kit. Looks great.
Regards, Rick
Yeah no seam problems, just the ailerons. But fantastic job! It’s always good to build something that has meaning to it.
Thanks Mark, Rick and RadMax8 I had other photos that showed more of the seams so I elected to leave those unposted! Anyway thanks for taking the time to view my post and your kind comments are gratefully received.
Excellent work, Simon!
That’s a very nice looking bomber. I especially like the exhaust stains. Great work.

Simon,
I think you have done a fantastic job! I’d be very proud to have that Lanc on my display shelf-well done.
Darren.
Beyond the ailerons, I can’t see anything wrong with her. you’ve got a build to be proud of.
And don’t make any appologies for that base, its fantastic! the narrow profile of it really sets off the shape of the aircraft and the forced perspective is excellent, particularly in the first two pictures.
Try a little thinned white glue around the ailerons and hold them up with something until it dries. It won’t stand up to much handling, but seeing as your Lanc is on a stand, it shouldn’t be a problem. I tried this many years ago on another old Airfix model and it worked quite well. Oh yes, great model and extra points for an original display idea.
great! doesn’t look like a first at all.
your freehanding skills are phenominal[:D]
Simon, you did a really terrific job !!!
Really nice done…
Thanks for the pics.
Cheers,
Jürgen
Excellent job on the Lanc. Certainly no need for apologies. I would be proud to claim that as one of my models, especially a first one.

I like how you portrayed the “white cliffs of Dover”. Great job!
that is a really nice lancaster, shows me up 100 times, well done on a great aircraft.
keep up the fantastic work.
looks fantastic…especially the Cliffs of Dover…or is it Beachy Head?
Great looking Lanc…and I really like what you did with the base- great idea!!!
Thanks for the tip I will try this as the ailerons really let the model down currently.
If Beachy head works better for you by all means think of it as Beachy head!
A big thankyou to one and all for taking time to view my work - it is just so encouraging. We have a public holiday in WA today and I’m heading for the workshop!
