I have purchased some lights from a local hobby shop, they are distributed by Model Power, Bulbs Lamp G.O.W. (grain of wheat) NO 392. The wire that it came with is too short in reaching my power supply. Can’t find any wire that will match the original wire it came with, would like to keep it this size because I plan to route the wires out of the aircraft and make it look like the plug coming from the ground power unit.
I need some help in finding some wire for these 2.5 MM lights for a C-130 aircraft. The wire is very very tiny, flexible and contains four (strands) conductors, on the ruler in fits between the two black marks that measure 1MM, in respect - its’ smaller then the wire that makes a paper clip.
You might try some of the places that carry supplies for model railroads. I think they use some very tiny wires for street lights and things like that.
Watch out for heat - those wheat bulbs can get hot enough to mess with your plastic. I have had great luck with high intensity LEDs - no heat at all. Check with radio shack for fine wire - does not have to be exactly like whats on the bulb.
Recently bought 0.4mm wire at hobby store railroad section but was 40 cents/ft…not cheap.
Echo previous post wrt heat issues w/gow bulbs. I’ve also had success with LEDs and fiber optics to reach out to nav light wingtips. Common fiber diameters are 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 mm etc., less than 25 cents/ft and allow larger light sources to be placed where wing is fatter. That said, I just scrounged a broken fax machine for parts and found dozens of 0.9mm wires up to a foot long. So you may have what you’re asking for in a broken VCR or whatever.
