Nats AC-130

Nope. It’s sctarchbuilt.

Excellent work. It was amazing to see it in person and talk tot eh guy who buil it.

My last USAF assignment was with the 16th SOW and they operated the AC-130H’s They Upgraded to the U models and as far as I know are still under the control for the Regular Air Force. Duke Field was a Reserve unit that operated the A models, I don’t know if they received the H models yet? It’s been 11 years, so it’s possible that they have. But while stationed with the 16th, I never saw panel lines that stood out like those. The Aircraft were regularly washed and painted or touched up as required. Being so close the the Sea and Salt air, it was necessary to keep them clean.

I still would like to see this model up close. I’d really like to see the inside details. It’s hard to locate any photos of the inside. The detail I can see is truly awesome.

I had the pleasure of viewing this model at last night’s IPMS R.I. Bong Chapter Meeting in Milwaukee. We were very fortunate to have one of our chapter members build this this model. Being that I was unable to make it to the Nat’s I can only say that it is like looking at a piece of fine jewelry. The builder is an emigrae from the Czech Replublic, and actually started on the project in 1999. After coming to the US he suffered a huge setback when the fore portion of the aircraft was left under a heat lamp too long causing it to melt. The kit was stripped, and started over, with completion coming just before the Nat’s. There is so much detail, that I can only say to watch the various publications out there as I am certain that you’ll see the details from John’s build book which he detailed quite well.

Seing the detail in AFV Modeler of Derek Brown’s 1/72 Abrams from 2004 was impressive enough. Looking at this 1/72 AC-130 in detail was nothing I have ever seen before and that includes some of Talal Chouman’s Armor masterpieces.

Like I said it was looking at a piece of fine jewelry…call it an AC-130 Rolex.

The dio of the Me163 taking off was done by a member of our local club (Valparaiso, Florida). He is very talented, and usually works in 1/144 scale. In fact he scratch-built and entered a U-2 and an HH-43 Huskie. He won second place for the Huskie, which he finished 2 HOURS before registration closed! Another very talented member of our club entered, and won a first place for, the Passion of the Christ dio.
