National Warplane Museum

I’m going to be in the Corning area in a couple of weeks. The National Warplane Museum, renamed Wings of Eagles Museum, is in the area. The website says they have 33 a/c, and a flyable B-17 that may or may not be there and may or may not be available to tour. Has anyone been there? Is it worth the time? Even if it is an airplane museum?

Whaddya mean even if it IS an airplane museum!!! hehe…

I dunno what it’s like now, but it wasn’t too bad a joint last time I was there. When I first visited back in the days after the initial move to this location, they didn’t have too awful much. Upon subsequent visits, they had grown quite a bit each time.

The last time I was there they had a few real gems, like an FH-1 Phantom on display (on loan from the Museum of Naval Aviation I believe…) and an AM-1 Mauler in the restoration hangar. Most of the stuff was inside, but there were a few things out on the apron. I wonder if they’re still trying to peddle that last A-37… LOL

Anyhoo, if you see any models on display there, three of them are mine. Now you think I could remember which three?

Fade to Black…

Found a page from the AEC site which lists all the aircraft on display. Dunno if it’s current or not, but here 'tis:

As of this writing, the images on the site seems to be loading really slow, which is unusual for AEC.

Anyhoo, they list a B-26 Marauder, but I can almost guarentee that it’s an A-26 Invader, as they had one on the last few visits. Alotta folks get the two mixed up…

Fade to Black…

Even if it is an airplane museum. We all know you have to go see it, even if it is not worth the time. Thanks for the info and the link, Steve. We’ll see what kind of pictures I can get out of it. The picture that comes up is an A-26, black with yellow trim.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm I was kind of wandering about that very same B-26 and the unusual colors it wears. But in all looks like a great time if you ask me.

Remember, after WWII, when they phased out the Maurader, they renamed the A-26 and called it the B-26. You would think the staff at an aircraft museum would know the difference.

Yes- definitely worth the visit! Last I heard they were trying to sell Fuddy Duddy, their B-17…

I have a Bully Hill wine called “Fortress Blush” that features Fuddy Duddy on the label and is a tribute to the NWM,

Any museum is worth going to if you’ve never been before. Especially if they have aircraft.

Would this happen to be Corning, New York?

Yes, the wife and I are going to spend a week seeing the sights around there.
