Could I get a suggestion as to which Model kasten tracks I should use on the DML Nashorn kit # 6166. I’m not sure if they are supposed to be 36 or 40cm.
Thanks
Mike

posably these
You definitely need 40cm tracks. The SK-18 set will do you just fine, however I’m not 100% sure they have enough links since the Nashorn/Hummel used a slightly longer modified Pz IV hull. The SK-18 set is designed for a standard Pz III/IV arrangement and has enough links for those (~93 for a Pz III, ~99 for a Pz IV). The Hummel I have built up on the shelf required 102 links per side and had a decent amount of sag in the runs, so I think you could get away with a standard set (all MK sets have a few spares built in) but you’ll have to be vigilant and not break or lose any links in the process.
Thanks Guys
That has pointed me in the right direction, Its the SK-18’s, plus a set of SK-20’s (the spares) as well. I just finished a set of model kastens for my ZSU-23-4M and only ruined 1 link, but trust me that was only beginners luck. I couldn’t trust myself to do that again.
As A follow up question what would use 36cm tracks? Early Panzer III’s?
Mike
36cm tracks were fitted to the early Pz IVs (ausf A-E) and IIIs (ausf E-G) as well as the early StuG IIIs (ausf A-B) depending on when they were produced and the time period in question. The 40cm tracks came into being in 1940 and became the standard size from there onward, so they are the much more common variety. Easy to tell the difference in reference photos is by the drive sprocket although earlier variants were often retrofitted with spacers to allow them to take the wider tracks. HTH.
