NASA AH-1G Cobra?

A recent search at greatmodels.com under Nasa gave a decal sheet for a Bell AH-1G Cobra. The sheet is for 1/48th scale yet my search for a kit in that scale has come up empty. Anyone know of a kit in this scale? Or maybe of a version that would be suitable for the decal sheet?

Thx in advance.

What’s the tail number on this NASA Cobra? I’ve got pics of a few of the ones they operated. Not sure about 48th kits, although I know Fujimi had one.

My best guess on the tail # is 736, the picture is small and sorta blurry but i think that is the # for the NASA cobra, also the sheet includes army markings which clouds thing a little further. /sigh

Yes, I believe #736 is correct. Superscale/Microscale did sheets in both 1/72nd and 1/48th scales for a single NASA AH-1G Cobra. The Monogram kit i the way to go in 1/72nd scale, and the Fujimi kit is probably best for 1/48th scale.

736, ok… NASA operated four G models. I was hoping it was 68-17054, which was another of them. Happen to know a guy who flew that one in-country [;)]

Cheers!

Thx for the help, Ill look into the fujimi kit.

I’ve got several sets of the Microscale 1/48 AH-1G decal sets with the NASA decals on them. There are two different NASA schemes; although both are overall white and have the same tail number. I could be easily persuaded to part with the NASA markings.

I’ve got the Fujimi 1/48 scale AH-1G as well, but someone has recently contacted me regarding buying or trading the kit. I do have several of the old Aurora 1/48 scale AH-1Gs. I’d have to dig around for those old kits though.

Hmmm, I would be interested in the decal sheet, and info on the aurora kit. I dont know much about aurora. How good are the kits? Anyway heres my email address feel free to email me and we can work something out.

Hey, that 1:48 Fujimi AH-1G is one to stay away from… it predates the AH-1S and AH-1J kits that were MUCH better. You can build a decent looking G-model by combining the single-engined “S” model with the canopy and nose of the twin-engined “J.” We have discussed this before in these forums… check the archives. I just looked, but I couldn’t find it.

I dug up a few photos I had of the NASA Cobras, but they were faded and discolored. I did my best to correct them before posting them here, but they still leave much to be desired. I’m sure I still have the negatives; I should have some new prints made up. I also have a few color slides, but I need to find a way to scan them in.

These pics were taken at Moffett Field NAS, probably 1978 or 79. The aircraft was assigned to NASA’s Ames Research Center. Enjoy.
