Name This Bird '06

Hi guys, I am not sure what happened to the old string, but I ran across this really neat pic and thought we might have some fun with it and start a new one:

B-45

I’m sure you all will get it right off[;)]

Just click on the picture to get the full view.

You all know the routine, please “be nice” and try to have a subject in mind for your own post when you get this one that will not cause the forum to “dry up” due to the frustration of the average member here by the subject being so “far out”,or having to wait so long, that only the other person that frankly has nothing else to do will be interested, or lucky to own a unique, out-of-print book could name it.

Edit:

For this forum let’s please keep the “open post” answer format (as opposed to the “you PM me and I pick my favorite answer”), since it is the most democratic method ,and it also prevent abuse from a “control freak” saying “so-and-so got the right answer first”, when in fact he may not have, but just have been a “buddy” of the individual posing the question, or in fact biased to a particular answer when others may be right as well and deserve credit.

Also, let’s please avoid sarcasm/shaded insults/sniping and dominate shows of ego by “dragging out” the answer to such obscurity and minutae that no one really cares.

I kind of get the feeling this is what might have caused the other to “shrivel up and die”, OK?

Good Luck.

Tom [C):-)]

As a “Bonus Point” what was the Luftwffe aircraft that inspired the development of this one?

Post Edit:

To further clarify, in order to keep this from “drying up”, if the first “winner” posts nothing with a week, the next who comes up with a correct answer can go next.

I believe that is a B-45 and the Luftwaffe “original” was the Arado 234.

B-45 Tornado (Ah, ya beat me! [(-D] )

You got it on both counts Hanna! [tup]

Unless you decide not to , you got the next post Hanna.

Sorry TAdan [:(]

Keep posted and your turn will come [;)]

Tom [C):-)]

edit:

If Hanna posts nothing within the week, you will be next TAdan.

Yuppers, B-45. Just saw a blurb about it on Secret Planes of the Superpowers that I had finally got around to watching on the DVR. Apparently we had sold a bunch to the British for them to use for high altitude recon flights over the Soviet Union. These flights infuriated Stalin so much that he pushed for development of a high speed, high altitude interceptor that eventually led to the MiG-25 Foxbat. The B-45 aircraft we sold to the Brits were devoid of any U.S. serial numbers or other markings. Even the Brits didn’t put any serial numbers, call letters or unit markings of any kind on them. Interesting stuff. [8D]

Well guys, since no one else has an entry to post at this time, here is another one:

Hopefully it will not be too difficult.

Hint:

Part of this aircraft’s manufacturer’s name is also the name of a very popular sandwich here in America, as in “I’ll have cheese on mine”. [;)]

Tom [C):-)]

I know, I know!

It’s an Ha 137. Here’s more:

Tom [C):-)]

I’m experiencing some technical difficulty postin’ pics right now. Go ahead and post another. I don’t want to hold the thread up.

Thanks

OK:

By popular demand, here goes:

There is a kit for this one also [;)]

Tom [C):-)]

blohm & voss bv222 ?

It’s the Blohm und Voss BV238 [:)]

p.s. I had originally sent a private message at 10:08 PST until I realized it was supposed to go into the post. [;)]

You got it Waikong. [TUP]

Give us a nice one, OK?

Sorry Espins, maybe next time [;)]

Tom T [C):-)]

Ah, I should have looked closer, the radial shaped engines… doh.

The 238 was a prototype that looked very similar, but had different engines.

…and was just a tad bit bigger. But who’s counting? [;)]

From that angle, though, really the only way you can tell is from the engines. Hm. Whatcha gonna do… [:-^]

The 222’s nose is longer than the 238, which was the only way I figured it out.

Okay, here’s mine, something modern for a change of pace…

the ugly duck, joint fighter thing in europe looks like the nose is going to fall off the rest of the plane

Chengdu, J-10

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

wow… i thought it looked familiar as my local hobby shop has one of them trumpeter 1/72 scale kit for it.

It does look like a Eurofighter that rammed into an F-16 from behind doesn’t it? But Darwin is right, a J-10 it is. Okay, Darwin, your turn.
