Name that battleship

Here’s my most recent completion, a battleship in 1/350 scale. Any guesses?

Montana???

Joan of Arc?

Here’s another angle …

And the real ship on the left …

That’s cheating…

But I’m not gonna tell!!! [:)]

Okay … I’ll fess up. It’s a kitbash of Tamiya’s 1/350 Missouri. And the “real” photo is really Photoshop … I switched a picture of the model with an Iowa class ship that was in the original picture. What you see is a “never-was” with fifteen 18-inch guns in five triple turrets. I never said I was sane …

Very good, and nice job on convincing the ship was real. You should work for the History Channel.

Merci bien, mon ami …

but the question should be, do you know WHY the navy wanted a battleship class with 5 turrets with 3 - 18in guns apiece. for those that don’t know, here’s why. naval aviation was still pretty new at the time this class was designed and also wasn’t thought to be that dangerous of an asset. the older admirals wanted super-battleships that could smash ships like the bismarck class and the {then rumored} yamato class in head to head fights. the iowa class design underwent a major change and downgraded the weaponry once it was realized just how dangerous a carrier and her squadrons could be and also to keep up with the new, fast carriers.

i forgot to add that your rendition looks awesome and i would’ve loved to have seen one of these built as a real ship.

That’s exactly why I did this one. After wading through all that history you just described, I got obsessed with making a model of such a beast. Thanks for your insights and the complements.

where are you at in the pac. norwest. i’m in Marysville, washington.

never mind. i read your profile. where is Graham from where Marysville is. we are just north of Everett.

Fort Lewis … I live in Graham. But I’ve been to the Tulalip … LOL!

Southeast of Tacoma

would you mind if i emailed you ? i have some questions about some kits and tools, etc. and it would keep us from doing “post-tag”. if it’s ok, email me at: thuntboss@yahoo.com and i’ll reply to your email.

Will do … but gotta run off right now.

On steroids, no doubt. [:D]

I was going to say the USS Kentucky.

I actually call it Oklahoma (BB 73), an Arizona Class battleship. See how that works out as alternative history?
