I got some nail shaping boards from Wal Mart the other day and tried them out yesterday… impressed is kinda light on how I felt about the results…
I had filled and sanded a seam, working down to the final finishing sandpaper… well I noticed two of the nail sticks looked to be finer than my Tamiya finishing paper… I went to work with the conditioning board, then the shining board (basically feels like kid leather)… WOW! The plastic was twice as glossy as the surrounding unsanded plastic…
I decided to play with it some more, working from the cleaning board, to the conditioning to the shine… even better results! not only that, I was able to see several heavier grit gouges in a spot I missed with the fine sandpaper… I also found a low spot I didn’t notice before because there was a dull circle in the middle of the seam that the flat stick couldn’t reach…
Just thought I would pass this on… for $1.49 you cant beat it. I figure after this, when I put on the future I will really have a smooth finish… plus I can get in some smaller places than with sandpaper alone…
If ya wanna try it, they’re in the cosmetics section with the other nail sanding boards… it’s the generic Wal Mart brand and there is a black, a white and a grey one in there… the blackone works pretty good as a ultra fine sandpaper stick and can even get out mild scratches… the white takes the dullness off the area… the grey makes it shine like a new waxed car!
They are very useful. I keep a big tub of them close by. I buy them from Walmart from time to time but mostly I buy mine at the “Dollar Store”. They are the same just a lot cheaper.
I swear by the Cosmetics department at walmart. Those nail files are the ticket. If you get the ones with 4 grits on one stick, you can sand and flip until it’s as smooth as silk.
The Hobby Lobby also carries the nail sander but they have been cut into strips with a width of about 1/8 inch on the sanding surface. Great for working in confined areas. You get aprox 2 doz strips in a bag for a couple of bucks. There is a mixture of grits available in each bag.
oh yeah! just got me some of those… LOVE EM!!! I was working on a Kingfisher and was trying to sand between the float struts and BAM! I happened upon those in HL… did the job in nothing flat! used strips cut from Tamiya finishing paper to finish it off
