Nail it to a board? How do YOU do it?

Or is there a better way to mount my newly-completed 1/72 Panzer IV to a base? Superglue seems too temporary – I’ve seen superglued models fall right off wooden bases at the worst of times, etc… So, what do you use to hold your finished armor to its base?

Just kidding about the nail…[:)]

Is the turret permanently attached? If not, remove it, use a pin drill to drill a small hole in the hull bottom. Then drill a corresponding hole through the wood base. Attach with a small nut and bolt. Probably need to countersink the hole on the bottom side for the bolt head.

I do the same as Major Rob. I also paint the bolt black (or use a black bolt).

I do the same as above but use black drywall screws as opposed to bolts. All you have to do is screw it in with a phillips screw driver. Easy to take off at a later date as well.

You could use epoxy. that’s stronger than CA.

I do something different. I set the model down where I want it to stay. I put a mark at the center of the center roadwheel next to the track. Remove the tank and measure how wide the track is. From your mark measure in the width of the track and make a second mark. Drill two small holes through the base about a Millimeter apart. Bend a piece of thin wire in a u shape. Place the wire on the roadwheel arm behind the roadwheel with the ends of the wire hanging down. As you set the tank down, guide the two wire ends through the holes and pull the wire tight. Twist or tie the wire and now the tank sits securly and there is no screw visable under the center of the tank.

black drywall screws, ya gotta love em, my house would probably fall down if it wernt for them, well all my shelves would for sure [;)]

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up using a simple screw through the bottom of the tank into the wooden base for this one. Had I used ground cover and/or any sort of terrain, I would have opted for the white glue or epoxy. Since it’s only a 1/72 tank, a single screw, painted black, did the trick. Pretty securely placed on the base. I whiteglued the turret on the model so I can remove it as necessary if I decide to put it into a future diorama.

Thanks again everyone!
