Nachtjager !

I finally finished my Nachtjager this evening. I say “finally” because this one sat in the box, assembled but not painted, since '98. About time I finished it !

This is Pro Modeler’s 1/48 Bf 110G-4, with a Verlinden update set. I added hydraulic lines to the gun bay, wiring to the engine, and made the antenna on the bottom of the fuselage from micro solder and copper wire.

I lost the landing light in the leading edge of the left wing. Although I searched and searched, it was not to be found. Replacing it will be difficult for me, so I’m posting pics now before I ruin it !

The camo is Model Master enamels, sprayed freehand. The decals are from Aeromaster.

Thanks for allowing me to share my work with you !

The canopy didn’t fit well with the resin guns installed. Not much I can do about that, I’m afraid.

I took the pic of the belly before I added the canopy and “Stag’s Antlers” antenna. I take chances when I build, but I try not to be foolish !

I’ll have to build an Me 262 Nachtjager to keep this one company !

Wow! [:0]
That is beautiful Bill! [tup]

Thanks for showing it to us.

Mike

That is really a nice build… Total detail through and through… I appreciate you sharing it with us!!

She looks just perfect Bill. You’ve sure got the camo down beautifully not to mention the incredible detail to the engines and gun bay. Thanks for sharing. Semper fi, mike

PIX, I still say your refusial to enter any contest is a crime. I would be proud to lose to work like your’s. Maybe you could enterain some of us with a demonstration at one.

BTW, you can take them to the show’s just to display, not to enter. Work like your’s is meant to be shared (and not just with us). PLEASE reconsider.
Also if the only show I went to is any indication. There are as many 1/48 aircraft as there are all other models together. If you win ANYTHING with 1/48 aircraft you have done something special.

beautiful outcome Pix. Love the 2 20’s standing straight up in the back of the green house, made those RAF boys shiver in the night. Is the tail on crocked?

I just noticed that. Yes it is isn’t it.

Hmmmm. The master is a hu-mon being afterall.[:p][}:)][:p][}:)]

As for the landing light, a piece of clear scotch tape over the hole will replace the lens. You’ll just have to “back” the hole first (spare PE Brass sheet will suffice).

Pix, Excellent build & great camo paint job. I left a suggestion for the wing light on LEM. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Excellent work again, Pix! I second the motion that more people shoud be enjoying your masterpieces!

Cheers,
onyan

Pix the Necromancer… [:D] Looks great. My builds that get started and not built straight through tend to end up in model heaven.[:-^]

Thank you Mike, tho, yw, therriman, Woodbeck, Rick, onyan, and Awood !

therriman & onyan - I don’t drive (I dislike cars), and there aren’t any shows (or even hobby shops !) any closer than 50 miles or so. Just a logistical impossibility, I’m afraid. I do appreciate your enthusiasm, though !

Woodbeck & therriman - no, the tail isn’t crooked. It kinda looks that way in the bottom pic, but you can see in the fourth pic that it isn’t. Probably the camera angle (the camera isn’t aligned exactly with the model).

Thanks again !

Pix - I am running out of superlatives to respond with!!

Just another example of a master at work. Thanks for continuing to raise the bar.

The camo scheme came out great! It actually seems a bit more subdued since your earlier post of the progress pics, which makes it even more convincing and I like the way the wingwalk stripes stand out. Very well done. (I told you I was out of words [:)]).

Why are the fuselage bulkheads numbered on the exterior of the A/C?

As for the upward pointing gun, wasn’t that a very common installation for nachtjagers? I forget what they called that arrangement. Something musik? (And I don’t mean Eine Kleine Nacht!)
stinger

a wunderbar nachtjager bill. i think you really give us all something to work towards. you certainly give me something to work towards !

What can I say? Outstanding work, again, Pix.

Awesome work pix. The camo looks awesome, and the detail work is very impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Pix,

If you are interested, I have a landing light for that model. Email is KRein1@cox.net.

Missile

Pix love the camo, great looking build

Thad

Thank you very much stinger, reggie, Dwight, pingtang, Missile, and Thad !

stinger - superlatives aren’t needed. Saying you like/don’t like is fine by me.
I repainted areas of the camo before I applied the decals, and colors appear darker and more saturated when they’re gloss (compare gloss/flat black painted parts). Messerschmitt numbered the bulkheads on Bf 109s & 110s. Must be that Teutonic love of documentation ! The gun installation was called “Schrage (sp?) Musik,” meaning “slant” or “jazz” music. British bombers had little protection from below, so nightfighters would fly underneath and fire. Some were even connected to optics that wuld automatically shoot when the bomber’s airframe blocked the Moon or star light from above. The Japanese also used this method of obliquely-firing cannons late in the war.

Missile068 - I would like to take you up on your generous offer. I clicked your link, and it came back saying the address was incorrect. You can click my email link, if you wish. Is there anything I can do for you?

Thanks again, everyone !

pix your work is always top notch and this is no exception. thankyou my friend for sharing it.
