Mysterious DC-7 Model...

I’m not sure, but I think by the shape of the tail, this is a 1/144 scale DC-7 model. It reminds me of those old aircraft recognition models you see hanging from the ceiling in WWII movies. A fellow vendor comped it to me when Steve and I vended at Modelpalooza. Vintage Flyer Decals has some interesting 1/144 DC-7 decals, a Braniff set in particular, that I like so that’s how I’m going to build it. The picture is all the pieces in the kit, so, yeah, not as complex as a Tamiya kit. I just need to add a display stand for when it’s done.

It looks like a DC-7

Might be, but the tail looks too short to be a DC-7.

it seems to me the tail is slimmer, then the DC-6 and the four bladed prop with hub cones.

A 1/144 DC-7 would be 9.33 inches long. A DC-6 8.75 inches long (DC-6A).

Your model looks bigger than that.

The top bottom split is really unusual.

Bill

Well, the fuselage does measure out to be just a bit shy of 9.25" so probably a DC-7. Still, the tail does seem a bit short. Then again, this isn’t a high end kit.

Tail looks right to me. Prop spinners look sevenish to me too.

Been working on the mystery DC-7 today. Sanding the fuselage seams. A few spots will need some filler CA glue. Especially need to fill and smooth the cockpit windows. After filling and sanding and smoothing, this weekend I’ll probably attach the wings. The kit is pretty basic but I think it will finish out nice.

Looking real good …

Coming along nicely Frank.
