1/32 BF110 W/interior - Eduards 1/48 should scale up nicely, but I’ve found some fit issues (or it’s me!!!???)
1/24 Bf110 w/full interior, engines, gun bays etc
Eduard… let’s have more of the 1/4 scale dashboards (included with the 1/48 BF110 Royal class kit) - or even… dare I say it… 1/4 scale cockpit kits - now there’s a thought!
now for my rant…
How come … or it seems to me that… 1/48 scale and 1/32 scale kits seem to have more parts and detail than the bigger 1/24 scale kits - or is it me? surely a 1/24 scale kit should offer the opportunity to manufacterers to superdetail these kits ( more plumbing round the engine, tons of detail in the cockpit, gun bays etc such as the Trumpeter 1/32 Me 262 kits). maybe the thinking is that by doing this the pricing of such kits to recoup expenses and to produce a profit will be out of modellers pockets to do this within a particular time frame.
how about this idea then… produce s 1/24 scale superdetailed kit - for example - 1/24 lancaster with 4 complete superdetailed engines, bomb bay, interior, cockpit, turrets, etched metal detail work etc and shift more units by setting the price low, say… £50 per kit. Would the demand for this kit for that price be huge enough for the manufacturer to recroup design & production costs and also a profit? I think that it would.
The thing is… who would be brave enough to give it a go???
Come on chaps… what would you like to see out on the market?
If I had the room, I think ALL my builds would be 1/24. But there isnt that many kits in that scale. I build 1/32 only and I wish there were more twin engine aircraft in that scale. Yes your right about the amount of AM stuff for 1/24. I think if the manufacturers of plastic would increase the no. of kits available, then the AM stuff would fallow…Harv
bspeed, Williams Bro. makes a very nice 1/32 BEE GEE. I built one years ago and it came out great. I think it was one of my best builds…way back when…Harv
If the 1/24 kits are the old Heller/Airfix variety, then no they’re not too good.
But I have built the Trump P-51, and while I know there was a fair amount of criticism, I liked it. I have two Vintage P-40s someone gave me, in the stash and they look promising, plus the P-47 got a nice preview.
Those Airfix & Heller kits date back to the 70’s and were if anything, ahead of their time. Even today, I think that the Stuka stands up very well and the Hurricane isn’t bad either. In places, it is supposed to be more accurate than the recent Trumpeter one.
That Dragon Bf-110 is one impressive-looking kit! Got to get me one of those.
While we’re on the subject of large-scale kits, has anyone heard any advance buzz about Revell’s 1/32 Ju-88 that’s supposed to be released in October? I saw some pics of an unpainted one on their web site, and quite frankly, I noticed serious issues with the match-up of the canopy and the forward fuselage, not to mention deep, out-of-scale panel lines along the fuselage. However, at the same time, the landing gear appeared to have excellent detail.
Been looking forward to that one for along time. Just hope it doesn’t rurn out to be a dog!
All Military helicopters in 1/35… Especially the heavy lifters… They’re starting to come around, slowly, but they need more. Where there’s ground troops, there’s helicopters in this day & age, and the model companies should recoginize that… In fact, I’d like to see 1/32 done away with entirely for aircraft and released in 1/35th to match up with the armor kits… Diorama possiblities would be endless… And absoluetly more aircrew and ground crew figures need to be out there…
They kinda are addressing it with the more numerous releases of 1/48th scale armor and vehicles, but for me, that’s going the wrong way… (I remember when getting a 1/48th Bandai jeep for an aircraft dio back in the 80s was a major coup and next to impossible to do more than one or twice… )
I got a lot more, but that’s enough for this page…
J.J. Did you ever see the article on the Vac-form C-5 that Paul Boyer did. That thing was monstrous. Also Anigrand just did a resin C-141A and B in 72nd.
