Got this in the mailbox today. Wonder if anyone here already has theirs? I certainly could use some help on this build so I’m hoping that some others will have ordered it and perhaps will decide to build the kit in the next 6 months or so.
I’ll be trying to finish my current build and then finish one I’d barely started in the armor dept. so it may not be until February before I get to this.
Just looking at the packaging is getting me all worked up to start it. I was surprised that it came with, in addition to their lovely instruction booklet, another booklet (80 pages) about Richthofen.
Always liked the looks of the D V. I’m not a WWI guy, but after seeing the replica at the San Diego Air & Space Museum I’m a big fan. I’ll be following!
Not sure I’ll do a WIP. I may just post the finished build. I’m not sure. I’ve screwed up a couple of WIP builds in the last few years so I’m a little gun shy. If I do post a WIP on the WNW kit, I’ll probably have worked my way through some of the build before posting. We’ll see.

To answer your question - I don’t know yet.
Not being an expert on WWI or any aircraft for that matter, I will just assume that capitalism rules: Whatever the market will bear would seem to be the philosophy with model kit manufacturers. If the kit goes together without any problematic fit issues and the instructions are clear and in an order that helps my build, then I’d say yes, it’s worth the $ I chose to spend. I certainly don’t have the knowledge of the aircraft to assertain dimension/shape mistakes.
If it’s anything like their other kits it should be a nice kit. I never have put one together myself but have heard from others who have, as well as see the finished products.
Looks like a mighty interesting build, Mike. Don’t really know anything about Wingnut Wings, other than that they seem to be some of the finer examples of WW1 stuff. I’ll be really interested to hear about the build.[:)]
There are plenty of reviews about WNW’s first Albatros D.V. It was out of production when I became interested in it. The kit I just received, I’m assuming, would be the same with minor variations. I would guess WNW just repackaged their original kit with the extra booklet, a figure of Manfred von Richthoven in addition to an instruction booklet to reflect Richthoven’s mount, and some minor differences in the frets/sprues.
Even if I don’t post a WIP I’ll try to include salient notes from my build when I post the finished kit.

I will keep searching for builds of the latest (Richthofen) iteration of the WNW’s kit but, since I hang out mostly in FineScale, I thought I’d ask here.
From building the DH-9A, my advice would be to be very careful to get the interior bits together tightly, there’s so much detail it’s easy to let things grow and the precision of the kits won’t allow that when you fit it all into the fuselage shells.
