My Weasel went "Thud" !

Leon.

Nice 105. That is one of my favorite planes. A couple of minor nit piks. The left wingtip red clearance light should be on the little tube sticking out of the leading edge of the wing. The protruding cover right at the tip was for the ECM antenna. This is also true of the green one on the right tip. This was feature unique to the G Wild Weasel. All other models had the light where you show it. When you put the lower exhaust nozzle petal in the nearly closed position, you should have straightened out the hinges so they were connected to the fuselage.

Excellent camo job, Leon…

Nice one, Leon. When I built that one, I used the old Microscale sheet for Georgia Peach, Last F-105G Flight, a machine from the GANG. That kit is dear to me, because it was one of those few “landmark kits” (including the slightly later Hasegawa Phantoms and Tamiya everything of the time) that marked a turning point in modeling, when things started to turn “modern,” and the kit makers realized that modelers were sophisticated now and demanded accurate ejection seats, boxed-in and detailed gear bays, raised cockpit detail, parts molded to scale, that kind of thing. That was 20 years ago (there had been a similar revolution in modeling ten years before that, but I wasn’t there for it) and just like, and because of, the computer revolution, it snowballs exponentially every year these days, except unlike computer products, our prices just go up and up. But anyway, I’ll always have a soft spot for that Monogram G-model Thud, and the D model as well, but it’s time for a new one in quarter scale. I have no room nor real inclination to do Trumpeter’s monster Thud.

Awesome THUD

I just read a book on the subject called “When Thunder Rolled.” It was written by a thud D, Ed Rasmus (not sure about the spelling), pilot about his 100 mission tour. With that book and your awesome thud, I find inspiration welling up.

Trumpeter just announced a new 1/72 kit, but I agree with Tom, it’s time for a modern tooled, high quality Thud.
