Got these two at Hobby Lobby from the discount bin, for a sum total of $19.38. Not a bad pick up if you ask me. Whats more amazing is that Miss Feldgrau let me get them. If you saw my stash you would understand why her letting me get more models is pretty special. She claims I wont live long enough to build them all. I keep telling her its a game that whoever dies with the biggest stash wins. Shes not buying it. So I told her that when the time comes to sell them on ebay for 30 bucks a pop and she will make back all the money I spent nd then some. She then told me the heck with that she was giving them all to goodwill. Gentleman, I fear for my Stash. I pray to the modeling gods " forgive her gods, for she knows not what she says!!"
Anyhow onto more serious stuff, the mustang I can work thru, as a matter of fact I am sure there is a review somewere for it, the Reliant is another story. Anybody got any tips for me??? Thanks in advance for the help.
The D stang is my favorite of the stangs (I know, thats a B), with “Old Crow” (Anderson) being my favorite pilot of one(Acutally Old Crow is his favorite whiskey). Nice pick. Now, hurry up and build them so we can get a peek. I also like the other one. [Y]
P.S. Most of my stash came from the Hobby Lobby 1/2 off sale. I don’t know if they still do that or not.
Rich, if you check some of the back posts about sizes of stashes, you will see that you are in good company. Some stashes number in the hundreds and some even more. At the speed that I build, I will have to keep building for the next 300 years (at least). I’m looking forward to working at the GREAT WORKBENCH IN THE SKY where all kit parts fit perfectly and every build comes out great. If I don’t make it there, they can go to the grandkids to do with as they please.
Yes, M.Brindos is correct in that I just very recently built the same exact Academy 1/72 Mustang kit, and as always, he is correct in that he recommends not to utilize the decal invasion stripes if you so chose to move in that direction.
I too would recommend in my humble opinion in that the invasion stripes should be painted on as oppose to the decal invasion stripes. It looks much better painted on, I used the decal invasion stripes as I’ve never seen such as a decal invasion stripes before. This was used out of curiosity more than anything else. It definately will be the first and last time I do this.
Here are three examples of the Academy 1/72 Mustang build. As you can see, the Mustang build turned out great. It’s the invasion stripe decals that pulls it down.
When you begin work on the Reliant, how about posting in the civil aircraft forum? That forum gets little traffic and needs a boost.
As far as building the kit, I finished mine a few months ago. I had some trepitation in the beginning, as AMT kits are not always the best. But this one is pretty good. The molds must be in pretty good shape, the molding is not bad. Fit is pretty good- not Tamiya quality but good for an AMT kit. Detail is quite good. I think you will enjoy it.
Gents, thanks for all the replys they are very usefull and appreciated.
Actually Don Out of force of habit I had planned on posting it in the aircraft section, but the civil aircraft section is the proper place for it anyhow so that is were I will post it.
Toshi I see what you mean with the invasion stripes on the 51. Not good looking at all. I will deffinately paint mine on.
Hi rich. I have the same reliant built. Kit went together pretty well. As you have I’m sure noticed the decals are very limited. The taping for the gold wings and tail lead edges are easy, the bumpy cowl is another story. I’ll be watching your site to see what advice you get. Beautiful aircraft. Good luck with it. aardvark
A civil kit with fixed landing gear! Nice thing with civil aircraft, is that there are many ways to paint them. Find a nice photo you like and paint it as you like. A nice excuse to pull out the bright orange and put some raceing stripes on the airplane.
