After 11 hours straight of modelling I needed a break, so I thought I would share the fruits of my labor. This was not all done today though.
I am using ScaleMotorsports awesome detail set to compliment Tamiya’s superior kit.
This photo contains well over 100 parts that make up these assemblies shown here.
These are SMS’s shocks, brake rotors and calipers. The rotors were airbrushed with MM Titanium buffing metalizer. The center hubs were masked off and left bare, this matched the photos on the cd very closely. The small triangular piece to the right is my scratchbuilt shock mount master. I will need to cast 4 of these for the kit. This will be a first for me so it should be fun.
This is the engine in progress. I have begun wiring and plumbing it. The metal piece that the wires terminate under is the fuel injector rail from SMS’s kit. The black injector wires are individual strands fom a piece of electrical wire. The braided fuel hose and fittings are Detailmaster’s. The carbon fiber is from SMS’s template sheets. I stripped the chrome off the exhaust and sprayed MM aluminum metalizer. I still have quite a bit of work left on the engine.
Finally is the frame. I am completely covering it with carbon fiber decals. I bought extra decals from SMS’s for this job, they don’t offer these templates in their kit. Lots of trial and error. I’m about halfway done with the frame.

AUG 29 Here are some recent photos of the engine.
Progress has been a little slow mainly due to the amount of wiring I’ve decided to do. I scratchbuilt a junction box (for lack of a better word) that most of the engine wiring goes to. It’s mounted to the back of the block between the cylinder heads. Most of the engine wiring and plumbing is done for now. Much more will be done once the engine is mounted in the car. I’ve mounted the engine to the rear frame, driveshafts, suspension arms, brake rotors and calipers (right side only). I’ve plumbed and wired the right side caliper and parking brake. After the brakes are done I’ll wire the starter, alternator and plumb the a/c compressor and water pump, then the engine assembly will be ready for installation.

Wow, I’ve been drooling over that detail kit for a while now. I just ordered the Enzo CD and some carbon fibre decals from SMS, but couldn’t part with the extra $ for the detail parts.

Thank you very much too all of you for the nice words of encouragement. It’s great to be able to share my photos with people that can appreciate the work. Often people will look at my models on display as if they were toys, that can be very frustrating. Being able to see others work and share mine really adds a great deal of satisfaction to this hobby.
Randy…The SMS kit is not for the faint of heart, It retails for $125.00 plus shipping. Between the cost of the kit, the detail set and paints your looking at almost $200.00. The CD is a photo CD containing over 300 up close pics of every piece of the car. The SMS directions reference various photos to assist in building, it’s a real jewel. Very helpful if your going to detail this car.

Can’t wait to see more photos. It’s looking fantastic. I must agree with your comment that most people just see models as toys. They don’t realise the time and skill involved in building models to a high standard. Better stop now as I can feel a rant coming on.[soapbox].

Darrne you are nuts for paying that much foa detail set. Thats like 3 times what the kit cost, atleast. Looks good though. The CD must be helpful. If i get the kit im gonna have to get the CD. Where can you get it? I know im asking alot of questions, but i need to know.lol Thanks

Randy…don’t worry about the questions, that’s what were all here for. As far as being nuts, well that’s not the first time I’ve heard that [:D]. The price of the kit is not out of line. I feel it’s worth it to be honest with you. Besides, this hobby is far cheaper than many others out there. You can go to ScaleMotorSports web site to get what you want. So far it’s all worth it definatly. Of coarse i do not even want to stop and think about how much I have in my scratchbuilt truck at this point though.
I just got 2 of the Enzo kits (Tamiya) the other day.They appear to be nice kits.I wonder if the wheels would look good on the Superbird I’m building?
I think “blown away” would be a good term to use here… outstanding work. I wish I had the time to make it worthwhile to buy the SMS kit.
