My Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter WIP

My 1st Tamiya kit. Be gentle folks, I’m still a noob. I never do the crew members, but I thought I will give it a bash. All brush painted:

I have two schemes planned, either a RAF bird fro, North Africa, or SAAF one out of Italy. Will have to decide when the new decals arrive, as the kiy ones just disintegrate.

Some progress, all buttoned up, engines, collector rind and undercarriage painted: The collector rings seem to be quite a contentious issue, with lots of model displaying a solid copper look. In my opinion this is wrong, and it is closer to a rusty steel look. I tried my best to emmulate the color after looking at photgraphs. I used a metallic black base and then a thinned coat of broen enamel to achive the look you see here.

The weathering on the undercarriage and bay doors was done using Tamiya broen and black panel line wash.

Excellent progress. Your first Tamiya kit build is superb.

Toshi

Going to have to park this build for now until new decals from the UK arrive. The kit decals are way too old, and just disintegrate the minute you touch them. I tried treating them with a clear coat, but that didn’t help either. It’s OK, I decided on the SAAF them anyways. Maybe start with the Airfix 1/72 B17 or 1/48 Stuka. Not sure yet.

After more than 6 weeks my replacement decals finally arrived from the UK, so this will start up soon again.

Lookin’ good so far, Gerhard! Also like that Whirlwind for your avatar. Recently bought the 1/48th Trumpeter kit of that plane. Always thought it was sleek, good-looking design. Too bad the RAF didn’t make hardly any use of it - guess the jet age caught up with it too quickly.
