It’s been a learning experience; it’s the first real scratch build I’ve done. I’ve had to learn how to work with resin casting and find new challenges everyday.
I know she’s not 100 percent accurate; I’ve taken quite a few liberties for various reasons.
That is simply just amazing!.. I couldnt do something of that scale!.. But now it makes me want to take my AMT kit, and strip it down and light it! Please keep us posted with future pics!
BEEEA-U-TIFUL! Over at the A/C forum they had a thread on your personal “Holy Grail” build. Well, that would be it for me - I’ve just never had the nerve to start it. When I do, I might use yours as a guide! Definitely keep up posted - very nice work indeed!
BTW - it looks as if you’re using ILM’s construction method as a guide. I’m not sure what the material was they used for the internal support, but it looked very much like what you did with wood. And, ofcourse, neon instead of LED/Fiber optics, Plexi instead of styrene, etc. - but otherwise very similar. What was your reference for construction technique?
I’ve been working on it for about five months now.
The ILM picture is kinda spooky; I really haven’t had any construction guide, I’ve just been reasoning out the best way to handle each problem as it arises. (Most of the major deviations from the ILM Star Destroyers come from construction snags; I’ll back myself into a corner and need to take liberties to get back on track.)
The real challenge has been hiding the cost from my wife. The big bills, styrene, resin and fiber optics can’t be hidden, but I’ve been buying all the nickel and dime stuff with cash, a little at a time and sneaking it into the house. She’s murder me she knew what it was really costing!
Just amazing! I can’t believe it. I am sending the link to everyone I know that likes star wars to show them your work. Please keep us posted; it is so cool to see.
Do you have a page like this for the x-wing / falcon??
Leon

The Star Destroyer has never been one of my favorites…until now!
That hanger bay is too freaking cool!!!
Man it’s hard enough sneaking my projects past the wife. But i think once the closet and kitchen table started filling up she caught on!LOL
OUSTANDING JOD! I just don’t have the words to describe it. They just dont’ do justice. Think i’ll just be quiet now… [bow][bow]
Thanks again for all the kind words the encourgement to prod forward!
Newtothegame: I never took any progress pics of the falcon or x-wing, and recently thinned out extra shots from the page. I may create a couple of links and re-post the rest of the photos.
I have been thinking of designing and scratching my
own spacecraft and to be honest, ur build is VERY inspiring… [bow]
Building such a craft is a daunting prospect.
Is it difficult working with fiber-optics, because nothing else
projects such a sense of scale…? Any pointers in that aspect?
