My second tank

This is a Tamiya 1/48 scale M4 Sherman

There are many like it, but this one is mine

It built up very quickly; it took just one afternoon

But there was this annoying void above the track, so I fixed it

No stowage or tow cable was included, so I set off to make my own and added some details from paperclip and copper wire. The antenna was a stripped guitar string.

then, it was ready for paint! I used rattle can olive drab as a base, then handpainted the camo pattern and dry brushed to bring out detail and fade the paint. I glossed for decals, applied a wash, added some dirt, and sealed it all with a flat coat.

tramping around campus

this was my first time suing link-and-length tracks and It took a few tries to get everything all together!

Ive decided I rather like 1/48 armor. Nice compact size, but large enough to still add detail. That, and its kinda cute. :stuck_out_tongue:

Comments?

I like the cammo’ on this…cheers…Kenny

When the page first loaded I thought that B&W photo was an original WWII photo!! Fantastic Sherman Owl. Great looking camo pattern, detail and weathering. Too bad Tamiya kept those open sponsons on their 1/48 scale Shermans. [:@] You would have thought they could fix that.

thanks bufflehead!

I didnt actually block the void on my first kit, so I made sure to close it up on my second!

I think they’re doing it on purpose with their Shermans, just to irritate those it bothers!

Nice job

those nasty little hobbitses!

Nice work there, those Tamiya 1/48’s are a nice intro to armor

Agreed, thankfully they ditched the diecast metal hulls in later products.

Nice looking build, and interesting camo. Allied armour is not really my thing, where was that scheme used.

the directions said Normandy 1944

I kinda liked the metal hulls. It gave my model a bit of heft

Interesting, i was thinking Pacific. I had always thought all allied armour in Europe was straight OD.

Never to old to learn, right.

Excellent work! =] I like the black and white photo.

Cool build. FYI @ Bish: Tamiya’s call out for the paint colors is incorrect. They should be OD and black. But it’s not a knock on CallsignOwl’s nice work, whatsoever.

For just your second effort, you did a bang-up job on it. I would ver have guessed the camo was brushed. I like it.

Thanks all! I seem to have gotten bit by the armor bug. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a great infection to have. [;)]

Wouldn’t be the first time a kit paint guide was wrong now would it. Was the OD and black widely used, i have never seen it.

Welcome to the Dark Side.
