This here would be the Tamiya 1/35 Panther G early version I built in the group build. For now it is done since I will not be able to get to the dio for it right away due to a surgery and another build that has a deadline to be met this month. I enjoyed building this one for the most part. Only a few fit problems of which only one required some modification of the mantlet cover. I added a Eduard barrel, PE grill screens and the PE zim that came with the kit. I went with a heavy weathered look for the dio idea I have running around in my head which is why the tracks have a rusted look instead of shiney drivin on look. I also added some damage here and there. Still need to add some pastels but will wait until it is on the base. As always I welcome any comments or complaints and hopefully I will be able to jump on tommorow before I head to the cutting table.
Nice looking work Chris … I’ve managed to catch a couple of glimpses of it during the course of the group build and have been impressed with the way this one came together for you.
I have only one critique to make, in pic 2, the full front, there appears to be a nasty little seam where the upper and lower hulls meet. Maybe you could touch that up when you further weather this beast.
Overall, very nice work. great job on the camo. Quite possibly the best work you’ve shown here.
Looks good from my angle Chris. Maybe you might want to slap an antenae on it, but that is pretty trivial. I just don’t understand how you can crank out those models and have them look so good. I’m jealous.
Great job. That’s the tank I wish Tamiya would put out as a 1/16 Full Option! I can’t tell whether there is a seam on the front of the hull, or that’s a trick of photography, but terrific job nonetheless.
Ahh yea antenna- I always seem to forget those things. Of coarse they always seem to get knocked off constantly also. I also still need to put on the jack, if I could only figure out where my two year old is stashing my parts I might could find the base.
Robert- that seam is something I do need to do something about. That was one of the bad fit areas for sure. It was alot worse than that and has a whole lot of glue holdong the two hull halves together.
Tigerman- I don;t know how I do them so fast either.I even went a week and a half without building on this one. I guess building at the kitchen table and still being around everyone helps though.
Looks great LQ. I particularly like the first shot where the background seems to be the same colour as the weathering on the gun barrel… and it looks like the barrel has holes reminiscent of swiss cheese [(-D]. The scotchbrite effect has been really well done.
Can I join Shermie and make a small observation: Did you paint the tools separately and then add them after the vehicle was painted? It looks like the tool clip on the head of the wire cutters is yellow whilst the hull below is green, and the shovel handle clip is yellow over the red hull. They would normally be the same colour as the hull camo.
Lastly, and this is just my opinion not a real observation, when the camo was being applied the tanker would have been standing on the ground to spray the hull sides. Based on the angles he would probably have sprayed camo a little further under the cleaning rod tube from there.
Have to agree with Sherm, your work is clearly getting better and better. Keep it up.
Chris, great work… The camo looks very convinceing and rough like it was a field app. The bashed in tool box is near to my heart too… how did you go about banging it up?? The zimmerit looks very good. I forget, was it PE or homegrown???
Petbat- I did paint them before i put them on. That was somwthing that got past me. Thanks for pointing that out, I’ll put it on the list of things to redo. I also forgot to throw some more red brown under the tool also. Thats what I like about here. Many eyes to catch the things my two don’t.
Kenneth- I did the bashing by holding the area over a candle,getting it soft and bashing it with the handle of my exacto. The zim is the eduard pe set that came wiith the kit. Do wish it was not so uniform and perfect looking though. And thanks for the cookie,my kids always eat them all around here before I can get one.
I just noticed this one today Chris and I can’t see the pics on Anglefire from work. I’ll check it out from the house but it sounds like everyone else is giving you good reviews!! Hope the surgery goes good for you.
I’m not really into WW2 armor but I have to say that is a really nice job you did there. I particularly like the bended fenders. Just like what a real battle damage could do. Thanks for sharing.
