This is Revell-Monogram’s P-47D kit. I havent finished it yet, i just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on the paint chipping. If you must be harsh, go ahead i prolly need to hear it[xx(]
Thanks for your comments/critisism!
Looks like it’s coming together well. Looking forward to the finished pics.
If you get a chance, check out my D in the Tuskegee Airmen GB.[:D]
It’s looking good so far… how do you make the rudder and stabilizers?.. decals?..
As Col. Klink would say … “Very interesting”
Looks like your paintbrush is just a little on the dry side, try doing that with just a little more paint on the bristles and fewer bristles on the brush. Another option might be to try an artists silver pencil.
Greetings Rad,
Your build looks really good thus far, especially the checkered patterns!! If it were me, I’d make some of the paint chips along the fuselage and wing tops a little less symmetrical. (all of them are basically the same shape, size and an equal distance apart)
Other than that, I think you’re looking good, man! [:)]
Take care and keep us updated,
Frank
Looks good from here. I agree with the above comments on the paint chipping.
Regards, Rick
thanks guys. I originally tried salt chipping, but for some reason the salt kinda melted in to paint, leaving some ugly white spots so i just took all the salt off and repainted it. The tail is made from decals. big, unruly decals. I used a TON of micro sol on those things. In retrospect (and for anyone building this kit in the future) it would have been a good idea to wait and attach the elevators after decalling.
I thing the paint chipping looks a bit too much like brush marks… Also, I think there’s too much of it. Other than that great build.
I’m in with the above. I think it’s a bit much and too symetrical. When doing it (unless it’s a japanese AC), concentrate on areas that would recieve the most abuse ie: leading edges, cowl edges, panels that get opened alot like th machine gun access panels, wing walks and where the pilot would step to get into the AC.
Try Swammy’s sggestion with a silver pencil - methinks it would look better.
Looks good. What did you do about the seams in the wheel well? I wonder if there is anything anybody can do about them!! I agree about the decals on the tail, they were an ungodly bear to put on right. Mine kept tearing and then I couldn’t get them to line up right. I* didn’t weather mine because, well, my weathering sucks big time.
Heres mine:
Looks pretty darn good to me. I just finished the salt chipping effect on my latest project, and it turne dout pretty well. I wonder if it matters to use acrylic vs. enamel with this techinique, since acrylic is water based perhaps it dissolves the salt somewhat. I used MM enamels and it came out ok. The only problem with it was there were small ridges where two layers of paint were (topside camo) after I popped out the salt. Anyhoo yours turned out very well. Don’t forget to show us the final project.
Looks awsome what scale is it
To be a little critical, thee chipping on the top of the wings and sides of the fuselage looks a little too uniform - like oldhooker said, they’re too much the same size and pattern.
The checker board tail looks great!! Is it paint, decals, or both?
The checker tail looks good but keep working on your chipping. I know I need more practice with mine.

Looks really good to me…
But, my opinion, you maybe overdid the paintchipping and drybrushing silver… Just what I think.
But overall very cool.
Cheers,
