my P-40

Hello you guys! I’m new to the site, but not the hobby.
Anyways, I thought I’d show you guys one of my models.
It’s a Revell-Monogram 1:48 scale P-40.

here you go

Welcome to the Forum. The pic is kinda blurry on my screen, but looks like a nice build. Unusual camo pattern.

Regards, Rick

Hey CnadienwargamerW,

[#welcome] to the forum !!!
Yeah, nice looking plane, but just like Rick said, the pic is a bit blurry…
Maiby try a new pic, so we can enjoy it better…

Sorry about the pic, stupid camera. Why is the scheme weird? It’s a Flying Tigers P-40.

I didn’t say weird, i said unusual. That is not the standard disruptive camo pattern used on the AVG P-40’s. Don’t meen to nit pick, but the AVG birds didn’t have red spinners either.

Oh, really, thats what the paint guide said. Sorry about the mix-up. Forgivith thee!

[#welcome] to the forum. Nice build! [tup] It looks like its tail is sitting up in the air? How did you mount it on that small base?

Hey rjkplasticmod,

The Flying Tigers used two colour patterns:

*Dark green upper and light grey down

*and this pattern, but I think you’ll better use a more yellow-brown paint, replacing the sand colour…

Altought, good job CnadienwargamerW !!

PS: check out my topic, of the lanc problem, got a few questions…

Its a long story. Along time ago, in a store far far away, I bought some little airplanes that came with these small plastic stands. Well, I grew outa the toy planes, and I began modeling this P-40. but, upon finishing the model, I found my brother had broken the landing gear off. I cried for hours. Then I realised I had these Plastic bases. So I built the landing gear inside the wheel wells, and then glued the model to the base. Then the base was glued to the wood stand. The End.

wheres this?

it looks good. and a difficult kit to work with. the revell instructions do leave something to be desired dont they. nice work.

joe

Yes, its kinda a second rate kit. But my dad doesn’t know that, and he bought me a second one for my birthday (the 21st) plus a Revell B-25. But the next P-40 should be better, I think I’m going with a U.S. Scheme.

Welcome to the forum, it’s a great looking P40…

Whell,CnadienwargamerW it’s on this page under the name Lancaster problem…

Greetz

PS: just saw it: didn’t you forgot to paint the canopy?

thank you evrybody for the comments.

i have two of them on the shelf. both will be made into birds involved in the pearl harbor attack. my only real problem with the revell kit is the lack of cockpit detail.

joe

well,um, no, I didn’t forget. I just can’t paint canopies. I will mess up like the first time.

Yeah, I know. I learned long ago that you can’t trust the kit painting guides if you want to build an accurate model. They are wrong a lot more than they are right. The original Sharkmouth P-40’s were flown by the RAF & did have red spinners. But the AVG aircraft all had dark earth spinners. Kit makers have confused this little fact many times in their painting instructions. Always pays to do a little research of the real aircraft when you model.

Yes, I have some Revell P-51s, and an A-10, And both have some great cockpit detail, and good pilot figures too. The P-40s seem a bit rushed, in a way. If you build it without the pilot, theres a big hole in the back support part of the seat becuase theres a tab on the pilot that fits in there. I’m building the next one without the pilot, so I coverd the hole with window making glue, then I’ll paint over it.

Hey,

Did you sprayed your plane, or brushed it?
You could use masking tape, paper, or just ordonnary choclate alumium foil…
Usually, I don’t mask my cockpits because I make 1/72 planes…
But you could visit Swanny’s site (lot’s of good tricks and tips)

Hopes it helps…
