Here’s the TC for my next project.
Critique please, I never wore, nor have I seen, this pattern camo in real life before.
I am painting him as if wearing nomex gloves. I have spent time at 29 Palms and Yuma, and live in the desert. I wouldn’t want to be jockeying around on a steel beast in that heat without gloves.

Having worn the chocolate chip I would have to say you are doing a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the uniform. It does appear a bit bright as they faded pretty quick but I guess a little weathering would do the trick.

If they were anything like the original “slant pocket” green cammy jungle utitlies we got in '76 or so, they probably faded real fast, LOL. The old corps green cotton utilities faded, but we starched the heck out of those. The plain green “jungle utes” faded to almost a yellow after a while in the tropics.

Having worn them too, I agree. He is looking great. Don’t forget to add the grey leather on the NOMEX gloves.

As another person from the chocolate chip era, looks great. A little darkening in the folds and it would be perfect.

I’ll set up the lights differently this afternoon. The sun suddenly decided to go away this morning. Looks like the weather is changing again out here.
On another note, some advise needed here. When the M60’s were repainted in desert colors, were the insides of the hatches painted sand or left in green? My search seems to indicate it was done rather hastily just prior to ODS.

[:)] $ I don’t know about you but I thought those gloves were junk.4 years at the Stumps in LAV’s and the only time I seen anyone wear them was when it got cold in the winter,never because of the heat.If they would have, the amount of crap they received would have sent them [:'(] to their mommy’s.It was hot enough with out putting on gloves.Besides you couldn’t pick your nose… i mean get into your pockets with them on. [whstl] But your guy still looks great. [:D]
The TC came out looking great. Good job on him.
Yes, the vehicles were quickly painted as they came into Saudi Arabia for ODS. They were buttoned up and hastily taped over optics and lights, then quickly sprayed. The inner hatches were left in their green color. Most were also painted with a local, non-FS color paint as well. Testors Model Master US Army/Marine Gulf War Sand is based on this non-FS color.
3rd LAV- I was a grunt and only a grunt. My time at the stumps was spent performing other duties, which meant I spent a lot of time walking behind these beasts. LOL
Gino- Thanks for the info. That is the color I painted the tank itself but I performed some detailing on the interior of the hatches and wanted to get it right. In my day the vehicles were all solid green. God that was a long time ago. [t$t]

I’m waiting on some AM tracks as the Tamiya rubberbands suck, hence the lack of wheels.

Looks great to me! I also think you did a fine job with Tamiya’s old fig.
This was a fun build. I had a good time with all the rivets, which when weathered, really pops the details.
I only see some silvering on the decals, but it could be the light. Otherwise it’s coming along nicely.

The decals settled in on a coat of Future yet even after a flat coat they reflect light and look silvered.
I wasn’t happy with the old skool hollow jerrycans with molded on racks so I made my own. I used a pair of am jerrycans and scratched the racks from strip and sheet.
I made wheel hangers from craft wire, and mounted them on the sides of the bustle basket.
