I ordered the new punch and die set from Micromark that is on the front cover. About $40 and it appears to be a good match to the set from Waldron. Well made and easy to use. I recommend it.
You should post this in the ‘Tools’ forum also.
Not finding a forum topic called tools. I’ll keep checking.
I was sorely tempted to get this last time I placed an order with micromark. But, I can’t really think of a time when I’d have that big of a need for one.
So, have you tried it out yet? How does it perform?
Really? There’s a whole subforum called Tools, Techniques and Reference and the Tools forum is the first one in there. There’s also Painting, Decals, Techniques and Reference Material.

Haven’t made an entire instrument panel yet but it’s got tight tolerances and seems to make clean cuts in 0.005" styrene. Haven’t tried clear yet for bezels.
I found the tools section and posted there as well.
I’m not sure I’ll use it all that often but it’s one of those things you just can’t do with anything else but a small punch and die. I found the Waldron set but it was nearly $100 so this seems like a good deal.
That’s a good tip…let us know more when you use it!
…and Micro-Mark is a very ‘customer friendly’ place.
What is the item number fo rthat set? I’d like ot order one.
Hey Jon,
the part number is 83513.

I thought of ordering one also but I don’t really see a need for it at this particular moment.
Here’s a link Jon: http://tinyurl.com/23jk4j
I bought the Waldron set a few years back, and it seems to get used almost every build now, whether it be to punch out discs to fill ejector pin marks, or masking for small details like filler hatches.
Definitely one of those items that you don’t believe you need until you have one.

The item number is:

I’m going to bring it to our IPMS-NCT meeting today and I’ll get some additional feedback from the members.
Thanks to both of you! [:D]
That is true Karl, filling the ejector pin marks would be a very good use for it.
Right now I have these and they go from 3/32" to 1/2" and they work pretty good, but the punch set would be better for sure. These are $5.99 from Harbor Freight Tools. [(-D]

The guys at IPMS NCT seemed to like the punch set. I’ve got a hardware store set as well but even the smallest one is quite a bit too large for 1/48 instrument panels.
