My new custom truck chassis is painted, and now rolling! pics just added.

I have an old dump truck model. I figure that it’s 1/25 truck chassis, heavy duty axles and leaf spring suspension system might make the perfect chassis for a quad gun? Maybe even a canvas covered suply truck chassis? I will scratch build the body, but it has a nice deisel international engine in it already. I will use balsa wood with brass accessories for the body and details… What are your thoughts? Just a way to use up some old parts, and attempt to make somthing cool.[:)]

[:D]the quad is a good idea,or you could use it for another gun truck[8D]

Alright, thanks for the input.

Anyone else have ideas to add as well? I am leaning towards the quad…

That is what I have to start with… Of course I will use different custom rims and shorten the chassis, but those are my parts so far. This wont be as realistic as some kits, but I figure it is just a good way to rescue some parts. The dump truck is in 1/25 scale, but with those tires, do you think the truck should be built in 1/35 scale? If 1/25, it would go nicely with my 1/25 jagdpanther project.

Here is the chassis, tires and drive shaft. Amazingly enough, the tires are almost exact to the real thing. I am using bass wood for the chassis. Next step will be either custom making my leaf springs, or usung the ones from the dump truck, not sure at the moment.:

Here are the plans that I am going by:

Let me know what you think![:)]

Here it is with the axles and leaf spring suspension mounted:

Talk about making some quick progress. That looks to be a cool project . Definatly one i will follow and wait to see the end result with pregnant anticipaition. [:D]

UPDATE:

Drive shafts in, transfer case scratch built—not completed, custom exaust system, and gastank built:

Cool kit! Looks like your progress is going along at light speed!

Ron

Well, it isnt a kit, those pictures that you see right there, are the only ones I have to go by. There isnt even a real scale. I am using all of my own hand built parts.

UPDATE:
engine added, transfer case done, rock gard over transfer case, battery box added, and air tanks for the air brakes were just installed, I will post pics when I get a little further along.

The chassis is complete and now rolling. Paint is also done. I am also done for the night with this truck. Here are some more pics:

Let me know what you think![:)]

Done for the night? You got more done today than Erush I mean some people get done in a year. Looks great so far .

Thanks, glad someone likes it, LOL

It is a bit rough, as I didnt sand it as much as I should have, but since when its the bottom of a 65 year old truck smooth like new? I need to add some rust to my muffler, and dirty it up a bit. I will start on the body late tonight, or early tomorrow morning.

Very nicely done! Can’t wait to see how you progress on the build.

Talk about fast scratchbuilding. It looks great, too.

LMAO. Wow, am I envious. I’ve been building longer than you’ve been born and I’ve never tried anything like that before. Looks great.

Do you sleep? My its looking good so far.I’m LMAO here tigerman.

Soldier,
looking good!
i was going to comment that it would be tough to scratch up a quad gun in 1/25
(as opposed to dropping in a 1/35 piece from another kit)
but your blazing progress makes me think you will pull it off w/
little problem.

great start (for you, a winter’s work for some of us!).
keep us posted.

Coming along very nicely!

WoW! Thanks for the compliments! I also put the Truck bed on last night and mounted some other accessories.
TIGERMAN, you are not that old… lol

Anyway, that was a solid effort for me. It isnt for show, and no one will see the underneath when it is in my dio, so I think it will work ok. I manage to get about 8 hours of sleep per night…
