My Latest - IJN Nachi in 1/500

Here’s my first ship model in several months, almost a year. It’s the IJN Nachi in 1/500, using the old Nichimo kit from the 1970s. Most of the superstructure is scratchbuilt, as is the foremast. I added Tom’s Modelworks brass set ad rails to it. Next up…IJN Tone in 1/350, I painted her deck last night. J

AWESOME Jeff!!! Can’t wait to see it in person!!!

What did you use for the water???

Water is acrylic gel medium…applied over a base of flat sea blue paint…with a wash of dark sea blue over the top…drybrushed along the hull and wave tops with an offwhite, and coated with Future.

Jeff this is awsome just awsome.Looks good.Digger

Its beautiful, very nice work.

Fine job, Jeff. I especially like the riggin; I’ve always had trouble with that. Are the Hinomarus decals or painted?

Paul,

The rigging is stretched sprue…I had run out of surgical silk and wanted to finish it. I left the sprue a light gray, which really makes it jump out when photographed with a flash. In reality, its not as stark as it appears in the photos.

I stole some decals from a 1/350 Tamiya sheet for the Prince of Wales, they include a Betty and Nell bomber…the kit decals were quite old (about 30 years old I’d guess) and were out of register anyway.

Jeff

Great looking ship Jeff, I have a special place in my heart for Japanese warships, they look so cool, especially when done right

She’s a sleek looking ship, love the water effects, thanks for the pics.

Good job, Jefferino … what did you use for the rigging?

Look up two posts!!!

It’s stretched sprue.
