my lastest build (pics)

Hello,

I felt like an “easier” build so here is my just-completed Italeri 1/48 Mirage 2000 done in French AF markings (kit decals). The kit is relatively easy to build as the assembly of the parts is more like a 1/72 than a 1/48.

I threw in a Neomega resin cockpit and added brake wires on the nose gear, otherwise it’s built OOB. Camo was done with a mix of Gunze acrylic and Model Mast acryl. Post shading was done with thinned enamel black. The drop tank was sprayed with rattle can silver.

I haven’t attached the missiles as those come in the kit are not very good. I have to look for replacement missiles in the spare stash and pop those in later.

Thank you and have a great day.

Terry

Hey Lofty,

I like the camo scheme…well done on the paint and pics…
Was just wondering how the fit came along…How would you rate the kit out of the box…Did you have a lot of work on the seams?
How would you rate it the build overall?

Thanks,
Tank

Very nice looking Mirage. Good work !

Regards, Rick

Very nice! Always had a special place in my heart for a Mirage.

Nice Su-34 too!

That is an SU-34, isn’t it?

Tankbuster. Thank you for your kind words.

I was told this is suppose to be a rebox of the old ESCI kit. It’s a simple kit and generally the fit is good. The fuselage halves fit together well. Major filling and sanding needs to be done on where the air intake meets the fuselage and wing root, though. Not sure if the finished model is 100% accurate, but it looks pretty accurate to me. The instruction sheet is good. Colouring guide is good but you can always go to www.bourget.free.fr for a walk-around of this plane.

It’s a cheap kit (Cdn$30 compare to Cdn$40 for the Heller kit) so you get what you paid for. The cockpit is so-so with only decals as instrument panels. Speaking of decals, they silver and don’t react to Mr. Mark Softer at all. Invest in aftermarket decal sheets if you want to build a contest winner. The missles look odd, I can’t pinpoint exactly what is wrong with them, they just look somewhat strange to me.

Overall, I rate this a 7.5/10. It’s good value for the money, if you can overlook some of the details.

Thanks

Terry

Thank you. Yes it’s a Revell 1/72 SU-34. It’s one of my earlier builds when I didn’t know how to weather a plane.

Nice job! I like the subtle panel fading. Congratulations on a very nice build.

Very nice build, I really like that post shading! Thinned black?! is it airbrushed or whashed? got to try that one

Great job /johan

Very nice thx for the pics!

That Mirage looks great, Terry!!
But i just love that Su-34!!! I don’t know why, but it has something sinister…
It looks pretty harmless from the top, with that big side-by-side seating cockpit, but once you get to the bottom there are these giant anti-shipping missiles!!! Not so harmless afterall!! And she is probably as maneuverable as the rest of the Flanker series. Great builts!!
