This is Hasegawa’s 1/48 Me 109G-2. Not a bad kit in general. The kit comes with a few resin pieces.

I don’t know why I decided to build another 109. Kind of a jerk of the knee thing, I picked this kit up a few days ago.

So, this is only my second 109. As fascinated as I tend to be by German AC I never really build to many.

The resin parts of the kit include the engine machine gun cowl and the wheels. Both componets were disappointing. The holes in these wheels were drilled shallow and straight. Problem is the axle on the oleos are angled so that the wheels would be more upright. From what I’ve seen the wheels are supposed to be more in line with the oleo.

I added brake lines to the struts and drilled the wheels to follow a better profile.

The machine gun cowl was nearly useless and I debated for a while about how to tackle the problem. The part was molded 1mm to short and was warped and twisted at the same time. In the end I decided it would be less work to try and use the part instead of modifying the plastic part or making a new one.

The kit took longer than usual because The History Channel is now perched on the shelf next to the bench but I really enjoyed it. The paint is a combo of Tamiya acryls and MM enamels. Weather is MIG pigments and oils. Flat is PolyScale and the decals required Solvaset. Hope you enjoy!
