My JagDPanther is COMPLETED! (less paint and decals)

Two? Then your still a rookie[:D][:D][:D].

You need a few half built or fully built kits and put back in the box cause you have 20 others you just got over the last 2 weeks and start them.

By the way Im kidding on the rookie thing[8D]

LOL, I am a rookie, this is only my 6th military model, not counting my dragon 1/144 panzers and my newest scratchbuilt truck…

Rookie or not, you’re doing good work, Soldier! Keep it up! [:)]

If you want some link tracks, try and score some from an older Tamiya or Academy Panther or Jagdpanther kit. As I mentioned before, they’re not as accurate as the belt-style tracks in the new kit, but I think they capture the feel of the real deal much better. Can that kind of stuff be found on E-Bay, perhaps? Dunno, E-Bay scares me, so I avoid it!!

For the folks asking about my squeeky-clean, high-gloss Jagdpanther:

Although I have never seen a color picture of such a scheme or color combo, I have read of late war Jagpanthers done in overall olive drab with stripes of dark yellow and panzer gray. So that’s what I went with!

I rarely model exact vehicles, but usually go for “representative” vehicles, based on what I know (or think I know!) about the type and the situation it was in. Which is probably why I’ll never win a contest…not that I’m sweating it!

My current (long-term) project is an exception: Bovington’s Tiger II, precisely as it appreared in the 80’s. Gotta have it done by September 5th…ooooh boy…

So Soldier, what kind of paint job are you thinking about for your J-Panther?
Gonna try some zimmerit?

Oh J dont scare him with the zim word. LOL!!

HHMMMMMM… What is zimmerit? Sounds interesting… What’s wrong thundergod?

Wow J-Hulk, I can see myself in that [:D]
WWIIsoldier, zimmerit is a kind of applique armour that was added to a lot of German vehicles. I’m very dumbfounded by this myself, and I’m sure that many people here will give you a MUCH better explanation about what it was, and how it was made, etc.
Modeling it has become somewhat of an art in itself within the modeling community. Some kits come with zimm allready moulded in, you can get aftermarket kits of zimm, or you can model it yourself, using putty or other materials. As I said, others will give you a much better explanation. I’m fairly new to the German stuff myself (at least the WWII stuff) so we’ll both learn [:)]

Alright! Somebody teach us two a german lesson!!

Here she is, DONE. I need only paint and decals. It came with a ton of extra parts including road wheels, tow hooks, gas cans AND an extra main gun barrel with parts. Lots more that I didnt mention. To me, a kit is pretty much lousy and CHEAP if the manufacturer cant even give extra peices for ones that break easy. Shows how much they care about the hobby… ACADEMY RULES!! any company who cant take that initiative is BOGUS.

Here are the pics:

Dang man… I’m Impressed. I can’t wait to see it done up…

The NSLHS has the Academy JP kit for 60 bucks… SHould I get it…?

Soldier, zimmerit was a paste that was applied to the hull and turret of the tank and used as an anit-magnetic mine defense. Theory being, the mine wouldn’t stick to the anti-metal paste.

Soldier,
nice job!

not sure if the extra pieces are for breakage, or if they are doing multiple versions off the same sprues or setting up for a variant down the road, etc.
in any case, extra bits are always welcome.

ed.

Nice work!

WOW! thanks for the replys! It doesnt look too good IMO because as of now, it is dull and boring. Yes KenethC you should get the kit. If you like panthers, then whats to lose? Except I paid more than 20 dollars less than you will… Glad you guys like it!

Maybe this picture with the hatches open will make you want one keneth…:

There is some glue here and there I will have to remove since my glue tubes acted up a bit… [:D]

MARC

HMM I think I will grab one and maybe use the Tamiya 1/35 kit as a pattern to detail it… I would LOVE to have a 1/25 JP… Thanks Soldier

Those extra bits in the pic you posted are a mix of late and early Jagdpanther parts, plus some leftover bits from its motorized days and some nice accessories.

The extra mantlet flange with the bolts is for the late Jpanther (like mine), and the one-piece barrel is for the early Jpanther. I’m afraid you used the late Jpanther two-piece barrel with the early Jpanther boltless mantlet flange. Which is probably OK, since it’s entirely possible that the early one-piece barrel could have been replaced by a late two-piece barrel sometime during the life of the vehicle. Almost anything is possible with German armor!
The fan-like device is also for a late Jpanther or Panther G. Did your kit come with the late model exhaust shrouds, too?

Nice to see Academy added those extra bits, instead of just selling the Tamiya copy straight out (which they used to do!).

Still haven’t decided on a paint scheme?

One quick note on your build: try and take it a little easier on the glue! From what I can see in the pix, you’ve really slathered it on in some places, which will require a lot of sanding later on to fix the overflow and distortions caused by the excess glue. A little glue goes a long way, so I would recommend trying to cut back on the amount you use for each joint. I think you’ll find you can create strong but clean joints that way.

Keep us posted with your progress!
