One of my first dios from way-back-when…Tamiya Mutt w/ VLS MG’s…Italeri Pirranah Command Vehicle…VLS figs, heavily modified…all comments welcomed…
nice… um…dio…looks great.
To be completely honest, the naked chicks are getting kinda old. Im finding that most of the dios you do get praises for having a girl in them, scantily clad usually. Everyone always talks about how there is no story and stuff is missing from dios. Well I think your dios are almost always the same. There is no more story in these as there is in a low budget pornography. Im sorry but it’s how I feel. Don’t get me wrong though, you are a great modeller and have fantastic skills painting and modeling. It’s just that your diorama’s usually lack substance other than eye candy.
Story wise, there aren’t many places this one can go Manny, especially in a public family rated forum.
On the other hand, nice touch with the shiny “wet” looking skin.
Thanks for the comments…most of my more “serious” dios I produce don’t have female figs in them…in fact, another dio I posted tonight (as well as an a/c and an AFV) has no females…I also have posted literally dozens of a/c (and armor) over the past 9 months w/ no girls in them…I guess what I am saying is this: don’t try to label me…I dug this dio out to add some material to a fairly dead Forum…
…there are two vehicles in the dio you can also comment on…hmmmmm, distracted maybe?..
The israeli Army does have co-ed forces…the “furvor” that the few dios I have posted w/ females has created is 95% positive…I even received praise by a FSM staffer who sent me a PM on one of my female figure vignettes…I am not trying to peddle any point of view or “contaminate” the Forum with inappropriate material; in fact, I edit those areas that folks like you find offensive…
…no wonder you call yourself “Deputy”…lol…
You sound pretty offended. I didn’t insult you or complain and whine about how I was offended by the content. Im more saying that there are plenty of other pieces of work that are very well done and receive barely any comments and then there are yours which are usually the same thing over and over and each one gets a “WOW MANNY GREAT JOB”, “Really great figures even if the chick does look like Richard Nixon”. As for the praise from an FSM staff member, they are just another person entitled to an opinion. I wouldn’t take something like that to heart too much, it’s just another compliment.
I know the Isreali Army has co-ed forces, many armies do. I think it kind of also belittles women (not only in uniform) when you always show a service-woman scantily clad and “attending” to the males.
Distracted? Wait isn’t that the whole point of a focal point? To grab the attention towards the main part of the diorama right? Which is what the two figures are. I guess not, it could be the Mutt which is actually what my eye went to in the first pic. And I don’t ever recall labelling you so that statement is totally out of place.
Ooout…Ooooh…Youve’ done it now D-Brad…you challenged the master! You’ve been vilified, every one of your post from now on will be scrutinized by the other “followers” in the forum! (ask me how I know) Hope you’re ready for it! Manny, the vehicles are both way to clean for a desert setting, the tires look they’ve just been armor-all’d. The builds are clean and would look good just by them selfs but in this dio…I’m not buying it! The area around the “tub” is dry, some water would have spilled while he was bathing. Little things like that would make the dio more belivable…right?
I think these are the things that “D-B” is refering to. When you show you’re “R” Rated dios it always seems that the dio itself is not as good as those you show that are "PG Rated.
Perhaps you get tired of a perticullar dio build, throw a naked woman in it and call it done. Who knows?
Manny,
It seems like you are chosen as the “Victim of the Month” by yours truly Master IYAAYAS.
First it was me, then the DOOG and now you.
[troll]
‘You sound pretty offended…’
Jeeezuuuus! Settle down D_B! I don’t think Manstein sounded offended at all; he took your comments with good humour and simply gave you a satirical reply.
If you are offended by M’s dioramas, then don’t look at them - your choice, mate.
Personally, I thought the diorama was entertaining - an alternative take on co-ed military forces. To me the “story” says that after ol’ mate has finished his bath, then the “chick” will hop into the bath and he’ll scrub her back… after all, we live in an age of equality…
A modeller’s model is his artist’s canvas - good work Manstein. If you can find time to build models and dioramas for their comedy value, then you’re a better man than me, mate!
Thank you for making my point M1…
Not validating your point, but validating that you are a troll. You really think that we run to the rescue because I’m the faithful “Follower” of those of people you attack? We are only responding to your rudeness. Isn’t it funny how people react negatively to your post most of time? Isn’t that telling you something? Could it be possible that you are a real troll?
Oh by the way, I know what you are going to say. “I served in the miliary and because of me and my friends, you can be home with your family and …” So typical of you. There are so many of people in this forum who are either serving or have served in the military and yet, they are very humble about their experiences and very polite. And yet, you use it as an excuse to be rude. Because you served in the military, doesn’t give you the right to be rude.
Wasn’t it you who said “See I told you so” to a person’s post about his son’s motorcycle accident and then used your Military story as an excuse to justify your comment? So typical of you.
Why don’t you look back some other comments you have posted and see what type of replies you got from others. I’m sure of it that not all of them are warm and fuzzy.

See, now that was the kinda feedback I was looking for: tires do look too clean…
Funny, the “politically correct police” haven’t jumped into the “Beirut” dio yet, and I posted it at the exact same time…hmmmm, maybe they DO like the chicks but just can’t admit it…you guys crack me up…

Not offended, but you were trying (and still are) to label me as the guy who can’t make a dio w/p putting a female fig in it and that 'aint true…and if the Forum in general gives me “more” positive feedback over other works, then what should I do, apologize?
And my point about the staffer was simple: if they thought the work was out of line I would have received something different than a compliment…
If the Mutt was truly what you liked in the dio you should have commented on that, not the one fig in the dio that you have a problem with…should I start putting veils on the female figs from now on…is that where this is coming from?
I don’t think it’s an all that bad dio, don’t forget that Manny stated that this was a dio from yesteryear, for all we know that this could have been one of his first dios ever, and nothing will be perfect, so what.
Manny, I like your dios, even if they have the ladies in them, they’re no different than if someone who does car dios with bikini girls all over them…yet people will love the Mustang with the girl, but frown on the military scene with a female?
Keep it up, I like what I see.

Thanks, it is actually a very old dio…I guess some guys just don’t like girls, go figure…
D-B, I understand your point of view and also respect it, but can you just think of it as this is something different than others? (Well, we all know that Manny definitely is different than most of us[:D])
I personally like Manny’s dios (whether there are girls in it or not) because he does have great skills and sometimes very humorous. I guess we can’t please all. I have family members who were murdered by Japanese people during occupation of Korea, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be telling people building WWII Japanese figures or war machines that they are wrong or I’m offended by it.
On the topic of the dio, I really like the jeep. There is enough stuff on it, and the painting techniques you used, namely what looks like pretty heavy drybrushing, is of a style that I really happen to like. It also gives it a somewhat ‘weathered’ appearance. As for the LAV, IMO it is way too clean. You clearly drybryshed the edges of the front hull armor, but the effect is not as apparent as you move down further on the vehicle. The tires are also way too clean, with nothing in the treads, typically something I think you would see in a desert setting…
Also, I think for the size of the dio, you probably may have been better off using only one vehicle. Using the vehicles to sort of outline the ‘action’ in the scene is effective, but maybe just to my eye it looks a little cluttered, with a lot of dead space on the ground. You did use some vegetation, but I think I would have used some more low ground vegetation. The three shrubs you used seem to look exactly the same. Also, maybe its just my eye, but the three you can see in the first pic, one in the upper-left, one in lower-left, and one off to the side of the jeep, to me they look like they are almost in a perfect isosceles triangle.
As for the chicks in the dio, meh. I never built for anything but fun, and I don’t see anything wrong with a diorama that is in good fun. However, considering your past comments in this particular forum regarding authenticity of scene and whatnot, well, I think you get my point. Sorry to drag this back into it, cuz as I said, I really could care less. I see nothing wrong with building for fun, but just kind of ironic considering the vehemence of your previous arguments.

Great points…as I stated earlier this was one of my first dios and I have learned a lot since then…
As far as being “authentic” or “accurate”…I think the title sorta sets the premise that this is my interpretation of of a co-ed army, so your arguement about my pointing out inaccuracies in other dios being “hypicritical” because of this one is invalid…
Thanks for the feedback…
Actually, I called it ironic, not “hypicritical”. In any case, I’m just playing devils’ advocate here by pointing out that your argument of ‘your interpretation’ could have just as equally been applied to some of those threads.

…not really…none of the ones I commented on in terms of accuracy had any “qualifying” disclaimers or statements, even after the inaccuracies were pointed out (by others as well), so again I believe your comments are not true in my case…
Manny…The MUTT looks great. Love all the items in it. I agree the dio is a little cluttered. The LAV just doesen’t look right. If you took it out and added some desert shrubs might be better. Plus two figures and two vehicles does not work. But with him driving and her as the gunner…well. But thats just my opinion
The figures look greatespecially the wet look.
As for the comments…once again we have somewhat of a unrinary competition and we are not even a week past Christmas. [sigh]
Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I agree we do this for fun and Manny has a great sense of humor. If you are on a semi-public forum and are looking for the prayer channel maybe you should change the station.
Personally Manny, I like your style. I guess that because I’m just a dirty old soldier[:-,]
Rounds Complete!!
