I’m fairly new back into modeling, and I’d like comments on my DML hetzer I finished… (my first attempt at individual links)… I think the hull probably needs another wash, but I would like some feedback. thank. hope this works
It’s a little hard to judge since you’ve only got the one pic and set against the dark wood background of the table, the flash makes it look very pale. Try using a more neutral background like a gray T-shirt or piece of cardboard and give different perspective shots.
From what I can see it looks like a clean build with some very nice detail touches to the wheels and skirts.
tankergeoff,
I would also like to welcome you to our funny farm—errr—forum. Hope you enjoy it here.
Your build looks nice. I especially like the battle damaged look of the side skirts.
Just one comment: It might be the photograph, but it appears the second and third roadwheels aren’t in full contact with the track. In addition, the front sprocket looks to be canted down and in somewhat. I’ve not built a Hetzer (yet), but is the barrel supposed to have the ring around it near the muzzle? The reason I ask is because I got to be in on the judging during a major competition some years ago, and we were fixing to award a first place to a Jagdpanzer IV, and someone came along and informed the team I was on to take a closer look at the barrel. Lo and behold, it had been installed backwards. Needless to say we all felt pretty silly missing something so obvious, but anyway, I was just wondering…
How did the build go? Do you find the DML Hetzer to be a pretty good kit?
Not necessarily Stryrene. If you were to use a barrel of the aftermarket (i.e. Jordi Rubio) you would get the muzzle rings. But DML’s kit barrel does not have it molded on.
Your build looks very good and I agree with some of the comments posted. I like the winter scheme, but it looks to clean. The Markings would have most likely been put in place before the winter white wash and not over it. But that is a very small detail and very none essential in my opinion. Would love to see some more pics from other angles. Thanks for sharing.
thanx everyone for the comments… i checked against some pics and it does seem my front sprockets are right and my wheels are all on the tread. maybe it was the angle. and as i look at my model, i do think the hull can be weathered more. I was thinking of an umber wash with some earth mixed in… anyways, thanx again. I have an M-8 I am almost finished built as a member of the Free French Army in St. Lo that I will try and put up next week to get more input…
STYRENE… I was worried about the kit before I built it as I had never done indy treads before, but I really really wanted to build a Hetzer, so I took it when work sent me away for three weeks and I could spend a lot of time on it… The kit went together great and I had a ball building it.
Your hetzer looks pretty nice from just the one picture and the fact that this is your first buildup of individual track links, I’d say you did ok. As far as the comments make by our fellow modellers, I pretty much agree with their points of view. Remember, they are only points of view, and intended to help you build a better model. Thanks for sharing your work with us and welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy the folks here, we’re all pretty kicked back type folks who really enjoy modelling and sharing our work and skills. semper fi, mike
