My Habu-pics

well heres my Monogram 1/72 SR-71. I didnt try to worry too much about how it turned out but I’m pretty happy with it. Except the decals were a little out of register. I made some FOD panels for the cans and a few flight tags with white squigles on them cuz i cant write that small and my printer is being cranky.[;)]
I learned a couple of things building this one:

  1. before painting, make sure the clear parts are NOT on the bench;
  2. detail master micromesh sheets really help get paint off of and polish clear parts;
  3. Its really hard to get decals down on those ridges;
  4. taking good pics of a black plane is pretty hard.

But, for a $10 walmart kit I guess its ok.

Nice work I just finnished a habu in 1/48 it came out fairly well given the airbrush problems i was subjected to durring my final painting as soon as i figure out how to post pictures it will surely be displayed i just hope its as well done as yours by the way the tags really make the model[8D][:D][bow][tup]

Very nice build. Thanks for sharing.

Way to go, Matt, well done! I’m presently doing a 1/72 SR-71 myself (Academy kit with the D-21 drone) for the Stealth GB. I hope mine comes out just as well as yours.

Cheers,
onyan

thanks for the comments guys.
H-master-1/48 thats HUGE hope you got a big shelf! I was surprised how big it was just in 1/72!
onyan- Actually I was doing this as sort of ‘practice’ for the nighthawk I just started on for the stealth GB. I wanted to test out the paint I’m going to use. FYI I used tamiya gloss black spray can, decalled and then flat finish.

Very nicely done. Love the cockpit detail, thanks for sharing

I have built the testors SR71 and used the habu decals for tail number 17974 which was stationed at Kadena Okinawa in th 70s when I was there. We watched every morning when that beauty took off and headed out over the China Sea. Incidently the nickname habu was given by the Okinawan folks which is a cobra snake

Nice Blackbird! Got to love this machine! Makes me want to get going on the Hasegawa kit I have stashed somewhere…

WOW!! That came out really nice. Now I’m really embarrassed to show off mine

What Dave said… I can see myself in there at 6 in the morning, loading the front and rear map projecters for the days mission. I still can’t believe that’s a 1/72. Awesome work on the protective covers too. I can’t see anything you’ve forgot, except maybe the drip pans underneath to catch all the dripping fuel.

Don

it looks good. thanks for posting it.

Nice build

Hey Matt,
Just going thru the weeks posts and thought I’d drop you a “nice build”. Just curious, how’d you do the FOD panels?
-Omar

thanks Omar, those are cut from a sheet of foamy hobby stuff they sell at walmart for about a buck a sheet. I think its for kids to make puppets out of or something but i used it for my own evil purposes[}:)]. and then i just cut slits and pushed some of the same tape from the tags thru and presto.
