A few days ago I had a wonderfull idea how to ‘mate’ my girlfriend and my models (No - not women models[V] damn!).
My girl dosent like those big tanks with all the “flat boring colors” they just dont meet the essential needs for having a descent home. It really dosen’t apply to any rule she declared on regarding the design of our home!
So I had an idea! why not to show her the nice side of modelling, from time to time building somthing colorfull such as a bright red formula 1 ferrari helps! recently I finished a tamiya 1/20 F189, Yea it’s an old kit but very nice one! I love it! and so she did. She also said she wished I wol’d build more…
BUT HERE COMES THE BEST IDEA!!!
My beautiful beautiful girlfriend happens to be from Ukraina (the ukraine) , I also have the Tamiya “russian tank crew set”, the one with the woman tanker. Obviusly my girl is MUCH more beautiful then the figure. So if I’ll use a bit of good knife work and a bit of putty WHAT IF… I’ll be able to sculpt her face (Hemm)?
And then “selling” her the story that we met in previose life where she were a russian tanker and I was somthing else… (maybe a german tanker, and a wird romance began? - maybe that’s the reason I love german armor - BUT, O, NO… Wait, I’M JEWISH!!!) [:p]
I think that if I’ll mange that she woul’d appriciate both my dull tanks and my building abillitys!
What do think? a good Idea or can you see me and my tanks flying through the door[;)]
Best of luck Shmodeler! I have been modeling for the whole year that me and my wife have been married. She still cant find a place to let me display my Military models. Being a veteran I would think she would let me display them with my awards and discharge papers …but no !
She is diificult but I love her! maybe when we get our house. One where I can have a room just for me and my models!! Very Hopeful thinking. But building the formula car is a good idea , just to break up the monotony. Well Best of luck
Yeah,my girlfriend is always saying how boring all my military vehicles look, with all those greens and browns.Dunno if I’d go as far as a formula one car, maybe a checkerboard p51d or something similar?
Hey ShModeler,
I must have been lucky when I met my girlfriend[:p] Even though most of her child hood was in El Salvador, she later moved to California w/ her family where she lived about 15 minutes away from Miramar(Top Gun Baby…!!![bow]).
The flight path was basically through here back yard and so as you can tell she love aviation. So she thinks that my hobby ROCKs all the more…!!!.
Well know she wants me to do a P-51 and a Corsair from El Salvador during the “Soccer Wars”[:I]
Hey sometimes your gonna have to build to please others!! Hint Hint[:p]
Flaps up, Mike
Go for it ShModeler. It’s worth a try. Better not mention the figure is her until she can recognize herself, though. If not, that slap might be yours indeed!
My wife has never objected to displaying my models any where in the house. However, after my sons became old enough to be move around on their own, I started placing my models on shelves in my modeling area (It’s daddys area, and you aren’t supposed to go in there if he isn’t in there). However, my modeling area is an entirely different subject. My wife claims I don’t clean it enough and she won’t allow it to be seen by any one outside the immediate family (and darned few of them is she has her way). besides, “No one can possibly find anything in there.” I maintain that this is not true, as I know exactly where everything in the room is (and if I cleaned it, I wouldn’t) and besides she never seems to have any problems finding something in there when she needs a paint brush, paint , glue etc that she doesn’t have but needs for one of her craft projects. And isn’t a clean desk the sign of a sick mind? [^][^] lol
If ever my girlfreind starts having a moan about my models cluttering up the space i have a secret weapon. AN IKEA CATALOGUE!!! I wave it seductively near her. When she spots it, i toss it away downstairs and off she goes whining.
I make my girlfriend a horse-themed model every year or so to keep reminding her what a truly wonderful and rewarding hobby this can be![swg] GO FOR IT!
I lucked out with my wife. She doesn’t mind my hobbies at all. Actually she takes part in my 40k painting. She does her own. Armor? totally different story. She smiles, rolls her eye’s, and leaves me alone. Well kind of. A frequent saying of hers is “How much did that cost?!”, or “Are you crazy?!” Other than that were cool.
I am pretty lucky as well as my wife builds/paints model figures/minatures! We have a big hobbyroom downstairs (our kids call the dungeon) that we have set-up to enjoy our hobby together.
