My Gal is 'Raid Hot'

Hey Guys,

I have a few small details to go, but for the most part ‘Raid Hot Mama’ is complete. She is the old Monogram P-47 Razorback kit with a few scratch built items and is all beat up including grass stains on the prop. I got the weathering idea from a few stories I read about how the crew chief threw a fit if the plane came back in anything but new condition. In one example, grass stains were on the prop because Lt. Drummond was flying too low. I got the image on the back from http://www.510fs.org. All of the model images are at http://gallery.craniometrics.com/raidhotmama/.

Nice build. The weathering is too extreme for my taste, but if your happy with it that’s all that matters. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Nice finish, very weathered, i like it.

Am i crazy, or does that “2”
look like an up-side-down “5”?

Leon.

Looks like it to me !

What are all those spots?

Garth,
Whoa! That’s weathered!!
Must have taken you hours and hours to do that! Looks pretty good for an old kit.
Well done.

Yes, the weathering is definately extreme, but if that is what floats your boat, go for it. I can appreciate the amount of work involved in what you did.

Thanks guys.

All in all the weathering was pretty painful to do. I think underneath it is one of my best paint jobs, and to cover it all up was pretty stressful. I like the ‘little history’ of the aircraft the most though and thought it would be funny.

The cartoon on the back reads:
“Lt. Drummond, if you expect to keep on flyin’ my airplane, you’re goin’ to have to take better care of her!”

On one hand you have John Drummond who couldn’t help but bring back the aircraft in horrible condition half the time and on the other, his crew chief who was completely anal about the condition it was brought back in. Imagine the fit he would have thrown when it was brought back like this! [:(!][:D] But, I guess they were both just doing their jobs.

Probably the things that took the longest on it were scribing the panel lines or scratch building the wheel wells. I think that made it even more painful to beat up… All of that work and, in the end, it all just get covered up with flak damage [:(]… woohoo [}:)]

Thanks again guys.

Nice work on the the Jug

Where did you find the decals?

The decals are from Eagle Strike. I bought the sheet for ‘Chicago Fat Cat’ which is also on there along with ‘The Scarab’. They were really nice to work with. I think I got them at the LHS, but the sheet is pretty easy to find. They have it on greatmodels.com. Oh, the set is called ‘American Jabos Pt.3’.

sounds like a heck of a build.
