Sounds, crazy, but does anyone have a spare driver’s hatch for a M4A3 Sherman 105 that they would want to sell me? I’ll pay for everything, including the envelope. My g@#*&^m floor ate mine about an hour ago. Have searched and cursed until my wife threatened divorce. She doesn’t relate to p.e. periscopes and scratch built brush guards. Anybody got a solution for the modeler’s worst enemy- the floor?
That’s tough, but it’s happened to all of us. Try putting a clean bag in the vacuum and going over the floor. You’ll find the part and make the wife happy to boot!
Dont worry, just start scratch building the part. as soon as you have it all nice and finnished and attatched to the model the original part you lost is bound to show up.

LOL. So true! I remember a long time ago when I was building my 1/72 Hasegawa AH64 Apache. I lost the front sensor on the nose. After fruitlessly searching for it for days I decided to scratch built one. Anyway after several YEARS when we had to transfer to a new house… you got tit, I found it in one of the corners of the floor. Kind of made me think that I was not doing a good job cleaning my room all those years, ha…ha…ha!
The only reason i said it is because for the millionth time it just happened to me this week when i lost the landing gear door to my corsair. After a day or 2 Reluctantly decided to scratch build it and litterally within seconds of the glue drying i found the door.
Sorry i couldnt help you with the part, hopefully i atleast eased the situation.

Quick fix…drop something less significant look for it and you’ll poibably find your hatch. Simple logic, the lost parts Gods really don’t care what part you drop as long as they can keep something in there blackhole! It’s a sacrificial thing ya know.[8D]

I’ve got a driver’s hatch from a Dragon kit that I parted out. It looks like a exact fit laying over a built Tamiya 105. If you can’t find yours, let me know and you can have it. It’s nice to have one’s own model junkyard.[;)]
We have all had that happen, the suggestion to put some muslim or pantyhose over the pipe to the vacuum cleaner works well.

I have carpet under my work bench, brownish in color, so light gray kit pieces show up better. I keep a large diameter flashlight/lantern type thing and use that, get down on hands and knees with nose at carpet level, and scan. Probably 95% recovery rate, the trick is to use your peripheral vision and look for the contrast as opposed to the part itself. Of course, I also find a lot of sprue nubs and other things this way too, always vacuum the floor before starting a new build to minimize though. [:D]
All great suggestions… I have two light fixtures from Target glued to the bottom of my desk to illuminate the floor. Works real well if: A) the part falls directly under my desk, and B) I remember to turn them off when done. I replace the batteries every time I drop something, it seems. The hatch went off the side when I casually picked up the resting board the tank sits on. I heard a faint clicking noise and then it rolled to China before it dawned on me what happened. I guess the periscope was perfectly balanced by the brush guard on the other side because it is nowhere to be found. matthew9- I’m gonna give it one more shot of searching, then an attempt at scratch build. If none of this works, I’ll probably take you up on the offer. I’ll gladly trade anything that you need, if I’ve got. Thanks everyone for lightening the situation. The guy who has never lost a piece is most assuredly the one who is alone. I think i’ve lost or broken off a piece of every single model i’ve ever done. I think the next model wants to live up to it and see what piece it can have me searching for. Kinda reminds me of forrest gump and Lt. what i do is get a flashlight lay on the floor keeping the side of my head touching the floor and then lay the flashlight on the floor in the direction im looking and 90% of the time i can find the part.
