My first X

Well, it’s not an X plane kit, per se, but I tried to make it into one; the XF8F-1 Bearcat. Also tried to to make it look like the pic in my signiature too, but I must admit, making your own decals can be tough. Very delicate work, and getting the scale right is all trial and error. As you can see I settled for error. [:I] Probably would have been better off matching the color of the fuselage and pringting that as negative space on white decal paper, leaving just the lettering. Of course, Senior Braintrust didn’t think of that until just now. [banghead] Oh well, it’s something different and that’s what I was trying to achieve. My wife was a part of this model. That’s a hair from her hairbrush as the antenna wire leading down from the tail to under the bubbletop.[:D]

Next up… Gonna finish up the building season with my next one. Hours normally spent modelling get spent on the golf course starting about this time of year. Heading off to the lawnmower forum to build my first chopper. What better one to do given my US WWII exclusivity than the Sikorsky R-4B.

Looks good none the less - enjoy the lawn mower :0)

Hi ya Quagmyre

Cool build … thanks for sharing … [bow]

Hey Quag, good looking cat. BTW What exactly was the problem with the decals on your Helldiver? I’ve got the same kit and a bunch of my decals are cracked. Could this be a problem with the manufacturing? Do you think we could get new decals if it is?

Thanks for sharing…! Making your own decals can be so hard…!

quagmyre it looks great. well done.

Monogram is infamous for less than poor decal quality. The darn things just dissintegrated on me no matter what I did. I tried making my own decals, which worked but ran into similar problems since the numbers and lettering were so narrow. I contacted RM for replacements, but they said they didn’t have any. Guess a lot of peeps had the same trouble as us. I think the negative space idea I mentioned above will work, I just gotta get to a laser printer to finish the decals for the helldiver.

Still a nice model. Wouldn’t dream of trying to make my own decals, so I doff my cap to you.
