My first tank build, Tamiya Walker M-41 Bulldog

sorry for the stupid questions, when you say add pigments, does that mean the stuff that comes in the Tamiya weathering kits?? lol im a total newb here.

The Tamiya weathering stuff is similar to pigments, but more durable. Pigments are finely ground up powders that you can apply to your models to give that final touch of realistic weathering. But they are very sensitive to handling and also do not work well with any top coats applied over them. The Tamiya stuff is made from pigments but has some sort of carrier agent added. I’m sure there are lots of folks here who can explain these things better than I can. No worries about the questions- there are lots of helpful folks here to get you up to speed on anything and everything in this hobby.

Don’t sweat the questions… [:D]

Pignents usually come in powder form. Pigments like those sold by Mig Productions are “pure” pigments (like those used to colour paint) and a little goes a long way.

The Tamiya “Weathering Master” sets are a sort of hybrid and aren’t straight powders - they have a waxy carrier and are more of a very heavy paste-like consistency. This helps them stay in place once applied.

The “Weathering Sticks” are similar, but with a slightly softer consistency and are kind of like those oil pastel sticks (ie. like soft crayons)

thanks guys, i have a tamiya mud stick and a tamiya weathering kit A (Sand, Light Sand, Mud) in the mail. im hoping to get them sometime this week. thanks again for the help.
