After being away from modelling for over 20 years, I have recently picked up the hobby again. This is my first ever attempt at a Diorama. So in saying, I would like your comments, good or suggestive. I know I need to work on my figures, as I have not gotten that technique down yet. So here it is I titled it “Route Defence”
Thanks for the input, I did use surgical gauze, and coated it with white glue mixed 50/50 with water. When I painted it it kind of stiffened up. Maybe should have painted with the air brush instead of paint brush? Will try that next time.
Now that I think about it some more, don’t put the glue mix on?
Now we’re getting somewhere! Less glue in the mix. Pre cut the pieces to a the size you need before soaking it. Wring out any excess glue and water. Any strings at the ends should fall with gravity, further softening the outline. In fact, add some brown acrylic paint to the glue and water mix so you’re dyeing it rather than painting it. I don’t recall seein multicolored WWII camo netting. Then drape is over the subject before it dries so it takes some of the shape of the object. Looks like you soaked it heavily in the glue mixture then laid it out to dry before painting it.
Excellent work and don’t worry about the camo netting. From someone who has been building models for over 50 years in all scales and all types, it is in the satisfaction one gets out of the work and the result.
Thanks for the input everyone, Have redone the cam nets and they look better, will try to get some more photos of this if I can grab the camera away from the wife again.
Thanks again to all those of you who provided feedback. I had applied your suggestions, and took “Best Diorama” [:)]at our model show today. Was very surprised as this was my first show ever and this is the first ever diorama that I had ever made.
Hey, by the way—could you post some updated photos of the dio and the changes you made to it based upon our suggestions? That would really help us to see what you’re talking about, and to more adequately level commentary on your “new improved” dio?
