My first post to Armor- DML Elefant 184 WIP

The photo etched copper zimm was from a verlinden kit, it worked pretty well for the most part but some of the parts didn’t quite match up, there was a problem where they extended beyond the top edge of the hull into the bottom of the “turret” (i guess you would call it?) there is still some gap filling to be done…

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your current WIP project with us. [tup] Looks like some putty work is in your future to get those panels to align…I didn’t know Verlinden made a set for the Elefant but looks like you’ve got this one under way alright. Keep us posted on your progress.

Makin’ some nice progress so far![tup] I have the 1/35 Dragon Premium Edition Ferdinand in my stash, which I have yet to start. Though for the zimm I plan to use a pyrograph or pyrograve(not sure of the correct spelling) for the zimm. Doog in another thread mentioned, that you can use the tool to melt the plastic to form the zimm look. Thus I plan on taking that path to make the zimm.

Be careful and practice first. Depending on the wattage, you could risk damage to your model. Steve (crockett) is the king of this type of zimming.

I was thinking of having this interior kit for the Elefant, good idea? And is that seriously all that was inside of the Elefant? I feel like there should be more in it, is verlinden just being verlinden and not giving me everything? (it doesn’t even come with an engine.)

Maybe have it abandoned in a field like this one? The problem I saw with this was that all the rivets are blown out (I’m assuming it got hit in the front by a large round?) I don’t want to have to model a hit tank, would it be be OK if I just took of that large pistol port in the back?

Assistance PLEASE…

I haven’t seen any documented evidence of a round piercing the thick frontal armor (200-250mm) It might have gotten shot in the side or destoyed by it’s crew to avoid capture. It looks like it might be mired in mud and thus self-inflicted.

thanks for the heads up tigerman, do you hink I could get away with leaving the rivets in the tank, or should I Just drill all the holes out?

I guess you would have to ask yourself why is it abandoned? Track take a mine? Self-destructed? I would leave the rivets in, but that is me and I don’t have any real documented evidence except damaged tracks.

That large circular hole is a crew hatch with a smaller hatch inside of it to toss out empty casings.

Nice work in progress psstoff995, I’ve always wanted to do an Elefant in 1/35.

how did I miss this, Nice one. If you already have the verlinden interior set then well and good. Some times these don’t fit too good. But I’m looking forward to seeing this progress.

Terry.
