Working good. I like the Skycrane and Trojan.
Idea of what?
The T-28 landed at our base one day. It was low on fuel, lost, and had no ammo for its 50 calibers. As soon as it landed it was surrounded by some of our patrols, including an armored car and escorted to a spot near the control tower where it could be watched. A few days later it left. I heard that the pilot was given fuel, directions and sent on his way. After answering a few questions of course.
I believe what everyone is confused on was your motive for posting the pictures. Really nice vintage pictures (and i enjoyed them myself) but you confused everyone when you initially posted them with no story or background to go with them. In a forum such as this; one usually posts pictures as a way to illustrate their progress and show show problems when asking for advise, or they post pictures to as a way of sharing a reference. Usually some kind of background or dialouge need to accompany in order for it to make sense.
But thanks for the background in your last post. I think we understand now that you wanted to share a few pictures of your old post however long ago.
Personally, i would love to know about that U-2C in the second picture. Where were you stationed?
Yes, thanks for the info. The Trojan is Royal Thai Air Force, DRat; that emblem on the tail is red. Did you cop to the F-111 in the last shot?
I’d guess from the revetments that the U-2 is also in Thailand. Ikar fill us in. These are great photos and if you would like to share more I’d be delighted.

Yep! I saw it! It looks like alot of the other aircraft are pretty much American. And judging from the aircraft posted and the quality of the photos, it seems that this is circa late '60s. I was kinda assuming that these might have been pictures of Vietnam.
I would like to see more of that Aardvark though too. Another aircraft i would like to get around to building one of these days
[#ditto] -Interesting T-28 story…So an RTAF Trojan landed at an American base because it needed ammo and fuel?
I was just happy that I finally figured out how to post pictures after so much work and frustration. anyway…
The Skycrane was taken at Dover AFB in 1973 during the Yom Kippur War.
The other pictures were taken at Korat RTAFB in 1974.
The T-28 was a Cambodian aircraft that had wondered around until it found a runway, and landed.
The U-2 had for some reason landed at Korat and took off the next day. I never did find out why it was there, but I did get some shots when it took off.
The F-111 belonged to either the 428th or 429th TFS. They had moved to Korat after Takhli RTAFB shut down.
All bases were owned and named by the Thai military and we were their guests. The Thai AF had one side of the property and we shared the runways. We kept jurisdiction on our side of the base and would defend it. We would also respond if necessary to any attack on their side when requested as well as the small US Army camp of the other side of our base.
Regarding the photo of the T-28 Trojan…the Fuselage Insignia looks to me to be Cambodian.

I’d like to know too, because it did not immediately look Thai. I dug up this shot though, labeled:

“A T-28 on the ramp at Udorn RTAFB. It was assigned to USMACTHAI/TLD and used for training.”
Certainly not an environment or a/c type where everything was “honestly” marked or by-the-book.
Thanks for the photos, I’m hoping to see more, and The Phantom Phreaks no doubt will dig in too.
That’s the first time I have seen someone else’s photo af a Cambodian T-28. It’s hard to tell, is it carrying a 50 caliber under each wing?
Here’s some F-111s and things.

That 8th picture down- the odd shaped prop-job. Any idea what that is? Nover seen it before…
That 111 is lookin pretty nice!!![8D]
It’a an Airtruk and was built in Australia. This one was a classified aircraft operated by the Thai military when I was at Korat RTAFB in 1974.
Try this 111:

This is very interesting stuff.
No. 1 you’ve discovered who the two big little kids are on this forum. Roger is smarter but I’m a lot older than him.
Are those your inflights? I’m guessing not since you weren’t too firm on which units the -111s were in, i.e. you were doing something else.
Looks like the CIA was busy at Korat, of course. I also don’t know of too many shots of U-2s during operational times, but I’m probably uneducated. And I’m still scratching my head, only because it makes it work better, about a RTAF aircraft type in Cambodian (?) markings landing at an RTAF Base and being sterilized, I guess. Might be nothing but a lost Khmer pilot.
The Trojan shot came from this site. I do not know these people.

Very nice Commando, a favorite of mine.
Thank you for sharing.
Roger- SAC flew FB-111’s
Great pics, Ikari, and I appreciate the comments to go with them…really puts them in perspective. I hope to see more from you here.
Someone once told me that youth and agility is no match for age and treachery. [}:)]
And i do believe you are indeed correct in that the F-111 was a part of SAC. In fact, i think i ran across a photgraph of one wearing the blue sash in one of my reference books. I just don’t remember exactly where.
Droppin hints, are we?[swg]
I’m guessing no one knew why the U-2C was there. I expect that if you did know, then they would probably have to kill you![;)]
There were two squadrons of F-111’s at Korat, the 428th TFSand 429th TFS. I had to give my camera to the crew because they didn’t give rides on missions.
The C-46 had blown out a couple pistons so they parked it near the Weasels and OV-10’s where we posted a guard on it with instructions that anyone trying to get on the ship without one of its crew was to be shot.
Here’s a few more shots:

This 34th TFS F-4 had a strange armament combination.
They picked up the “D” models in a trade with the Wolfpack who got the 34th’s “E” models. Not a happy trade.
