Here’s a couple of pics of my first NMF that i built in the NMF GB…I used Allclad11 and MM metalisers for the finish…The decals are from Red Roo and represent an 82Sqd Mustang based in Japan…
The only gripe i had was with the Tamiya canopy, i didn’t like that very much but i’m pretty happy with the way it all came out, i’ve avoided NMF for years but after this i’ll be doing some more Mustangs…

Oi! Excellent finish and good timing as the NMF I deadline is at the end of the month. I seen a interesting book in Squadron Mail order called ‘Shermans in New Zealand service’ It was currently out of stock, check it out for a break from the shiny airplanes. The cover features a Sherman Firefly in NZ markings.

How was the kit? I’ve never built any versions of Tamiya’s Mustangs, but I’m thinking of tracking down the boxing with the staff car kit included.

Baron, the Tamiya kit is a Gem, the only putty i used was underneath on it’s radiator intake but that was my fault, too heavy handed with the knife…The canopy is it’s only let down…

That’s a great looking finish. I still don’t have a NMF kit in my stash yet, but seeing yours makes me want to add one this weekend. Great work and excellent shading on the various panels.

Great job on the Mustang. The NMF looks very nice. I’ve done one as well on this same kit. It’s hard to go wrong with the Tamiya kit and Alclad II.
Julez I didn’t know this was your first NMF build !! Looks much much better than my first one. My hat is off to you for a very well done Mustang. [t$t] Hope to see you in NMF round 2 [:D] For my Mustang builds I have become a believer in Squadrons vacuformed canopys. They don’t seem to have fit issues and look much better open than the thick kit versions. They also look much clearer to my eye, all that nice pit detail dontcha know.
Thanks again for the kind words Gents[:)] i’m still looking at this build and wondering if i should have done a few things differently but overall i’m happy with it, more importantly i’ve done the dreaded first NMF and found it wasn’t anywhere near as hard i’d imagined so that opens up the mustang floodgates and well i have another 3 D’s that i want to do this year, i have the Aussie one so 2 USAAF and 1 from the RAF…
Vetteman, buddy you will definatly be seeing me in NMF11, i’ll have more time this time so i think a more challenging scheme is in order…And thankd for the heads up on the canopy, i thought Squadron only did the vac for the Hasegawa Mustang…I’ll be more than happy to replace the Tamiya one…
Julez that is a jam up finish!!! Beautifulwork mate!!![t$t] However, just something that caught my eye, i hope i am wrong but, It looks to me that the blades of the prop are pitched in the wrong direction?

Sim, you got a good eye buddy, i didn’t even notice that till now[blndfld]…And nows it’s glaring at me[thanks mate] but it’s only tacked in with superglue so it’s an easy fix…The blades are from the Has kit…
