It is that. I’m glad I found it. I’m probably about four. The guy behind me, Jack K, was my best friend for years and years. Celeste W was my first serious girlfriend.
We lived in a modern tract house familiar to Cali people called an “Eichler”. Got to love those asbestos laden vinyl tile floors, over hard concrete.
I hadn’t discovered Lego yet in 1959. But Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs and Erector Sets were my stock in trade.

I miss tinker toys.
And speaking of tissue and dope, I started this little project this weekend. I had the Guillows SE 5 kit collecting dust, aquired a Cox TD .020 at a grage sale, and started feeling like trying some old school building.
I think the Guillows brand is the only stick and tissue kit brand still around from when I started modeling. Stick and tissue models are still around, but new vendors. Although, Dumas may have been around when I started modeling, but they were all ships and boats then.
I still build a stick and tissue kit now and then- you can go back again! And, I still have a Cox .010, mounted on a nice, stained hardwood display mount, as a landmark product. I have not heard of a mass produced engine of smaller displacement!
That kid in the photo had a few Cox control line airplanes. One benefit of living in a cul-de-sac.
I only built one or two stick and tissue models, and used white glue instead of something like Ambroid. They always came apart when they (glider) crashed.
As for power plants, I understand the hot set up now is electrics. I know John Eaton is in it.
