Here is my first dio. It is supposed to represent a German unit stopped on a French mountain road to make sure they are on the right location for an embush. I used polyfilla to shape the road sides and road bed. Then I put some rocks and I used broom braids to simulate the grass. The road was painted dark yellow and flath earth, then I sprayed black pepper to simulate gsmall rocks. Finally, I made the road look like if there were some trafic by rubbing pastels on the surface. The leaves in the border of the road is oregano. Even if the result is not what I expected, it was fun to build. What I like is I used only material found around the house.
Yann, very nice dio for a first one! Black pepper for teeny rocks, what an idea! Nice looking groundwork, and nice going on the Demag and trailer. As stated already, just a quick frame, and you’re good to go!
That’s pretty awesome. Not just the model work, but the overall “performance” of the diorama. From the size, to the positioning of objects to the capturing of the moment…you’ve pulled off the first one masterfully, and I now look forward to the next. Actually work like yours is inspiring, and I hope to attempt a diorama some day.
Thank you! Much appreciated. My next one will be a winter diorama for my flak 36. Again, I’ll try to take products around the house instead of buying stuff at my LHS.
Yann, sometimes stuff around the yard makes the best stuff to use. I used to use sifted soil for groundwork, but have since switched to sanded tile grout. Soil works great, and once secure with white glue/water, I haven’t had a single problem with bacteria/bugs growing on my dios. Branches make excellent “logs”, and roots make pretty good starting points for trees. Looking forward to your next project.
i think it looks great!,one of these days i’ll get up enough nerve to do a scene other than the FSM tarmac that i did for my SNJ,i do have a ground crew with all the carts ,just need the right jet to make it into something that won’t get me laughed at
again, great work ,i can only hope my first one looks that good
