Hi, I’m new to the whole posting regularly thing, but I thought I’d present my contest winning Dragon Panzer III Ausf. J. It took 1st at the 2008 Hoby Town USA National Model Contest.
All Comments are welcome.
Sorry if the pics are a bit blurry.
The figures are Tamiya, from their BMW motorcycle set. The side skirts are scratch built from sheet styrene, and the braces are loose bits of PE. Painted with model master enamels, and tamiya acrylics.
That’s no white wash, it’s a battle station… oh sorry getting my genres mixed up. Anyway, that’s not a white wash, I just sprayed the whole thing with a white model masters spray can. The weathering is tamiya german grey and various highly thinned water colors.
I couldn’t agree more. Yes the trophy’s nice. Finally something to put into a bare trophy case! HA![(-D] They had trophies for first and second (not to brag or anything) and ribbons for 3,4,5. I had to drive for thirty minutes to get to the Hobby Town that was holding the contest, Longmont has horrible traffic, Ha.
By the way, what do you guys think of the figures? I have trouble with faces. If the pics are too blurry to tell i’ll take some more.
The photos are a bit blurry, but figures take practice. I’ve been doing them, on and off, for over 35 years, and I’m still not happy with what I can achieve:
There are a number of useful on-line guides to help get you started. Here’s one:
Modelling magazines, including FSM, also do ‘figure painting for beginners’ articles fairly frequently. Look out for them. They’re useful even if you’ve been doing it some time.
