My First Completed Model

Circa 13-14 years old (about 13 years ago). This was a fun kit to build, but honestly I’m not sure what kit it was. It was called the “Black Rat” and was either by Revell or Monogram. Anyone with info on this kit would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, I don’t know why my camera pics up the dust so well…it sure doesn’t look that dusty when you look at it, but I guess it’s about time to dust it anyway. This was finished using the old testors glue in the orange tube, the testors cheap white brushes, testors bottled paints, and some cheap auto paint. Despite any flaws I’m still amazed as how well it turned out, and how it has lasted all of these years. Until recently it was the only build I had ever done.

BTW you can comment all you want, but it was done when I was young, and I am aware of all and any flaw you can pick out!!! LOL I just thought it would be fun to show you what I did oh so long ago!!!

Hi ya kik36

Hey it’s a Corvette … you just can’t go wrong with one of them … thanks for sharing … [swg]

Hey kik,
Ah yes the “Black Rat” It was indeed a Monogram kit. My grandfather bought me the Combo set of the three Vettes.
A 53’, 65’(yours) and an 85’ if I’m not mistaken. And in that set, it had the decals for the Black Rat.
Nice job my friend!! Anyone who builds a Vette is a friend of mine!!![:p][;)]
Again nice lookin Rat!!
Flaps up, Mike

I think it’s awesome that you still have that. I wish I still had all of mine from so many years ago.

Once I hit about 16, I decided that I was “too old” for them and threw them all in the garbage. My dad says he ‘intercepted’ them and has them all stored away. My mom thinks my dad sold them all at a garage sale. Neither of them have the greatest memory anymore, so we really don’t know for sure what happened to them, but I’m really hoping they’re in a big box somewhere stored away at home! What a treat that would be!!

Wow! You must be a natural. My first models never had a paint jib the smooth. I had no idea the right way to spray. Yurned out very textured. My first model was a Dodge Viper. I don’t have it anymore. Kinda wish I still did…

Looks fine to me. I can’t actually remember my first car models probably some Airfix thingy but I don’t regret not still having them - they’d be about 35 years old by now!

Looks great for a first kit! Mine had major orange peel. Way cool decals there too!

Heath-
It looks a heckuva lot better than my first model car, mate. Well done.
And Steve’s right - it’s a 'Vette - doesn’t get any better.

Nice to see a first. I still remember my first model ever, it was an astronaut outside the capsule. Got it as a christmas gift from my grandfather, I was six years old and now some thirtyfour years later I’m stil hooked. I’m kind of glad that I don’t have all of my earlier stuff left. My mother almost got crazy over all of my aeroplanes hangning form string in the ceiling collecting dust. At peaklevel my collection was approx. eighty pcs. mostly 1/72 scale and from Airfix. Started to build cars when I was nine or ten years old and has never stopped. Although I tried because I thought it was to expensive for my economy when I moved to my first own apartment. It lasted a week or so and then, like an alcoholic I had to go to the local hobbyshop and get me something [:D] Somewhere I still have the same 'vette but it’s painted in some dreadfull pink hue from Molak [xx(] with a ton of orangepeel.

Happy modeling!
Niclas

Looks great. Whats next…

My first model was a Dodge Ram. I loved it, even though I am more of a chevy fan nowadays. I got it when I was 7. It is a metal body. I am 14 now, and going on to bigger things, even though I am not extremely talented, my new ones look good to me. The ram I thought was cool, but i though it would look cool a little bit lower.
