My First Armor

Hi all !!!

Ok boys and girls, I just may create a frenzy of postings (or not), but i would like to do a tank or something … I mostly do cars and trucks, since i’m a self proclaimed car guy!!!

So i decided to come here, where the experts are, to ask this question…

What would be a good first kit/subject??? my modeling capabilities are a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, i do a little of scratchbuilding(very little) and can’t paint camo to save my life!!!

SO, does anyone have any suggestions???

Thanks for your help…

P.S. If anyone has any extra kits they would like to unload, cheap, let me know!!!

Thanks

Welcome to the darkside littlemoe.

The camo issue is an easy one to get round. Most allied paint job are single color and early Greman can also be single color.

As for what kit, well something like a Tamiya T34 has be suggested bfore as a good starter or even a Panther.

Depending on how much money you’re willing to spend, first and foremost, I would buy a Tamiya Armor kit.

As for what type, I would say Tamiya’s T34 Russian armor kit would be a good start. The kit is a nice build, straight out of the box and you won’t have to paint a complex camo pattern.

DML Dragon and Academy also have nice kits (Although most DML Dragon kits have seperate track links that you have to assemble) Not what you want to jump into, being your first armor kit (IMHO)

I agree with Dave,

Any Tamiya will be a good first build… easy kits to make and good looking when done. Welcome to the forum!

Ron.

Hey box1, you beat my post by a minute [:p]

Has anyone mentioned a Tamiya kit yet?
Oh, yeah…they have! [;)]

So, hey, I reckon a Tamiya kit would be nice! [:D]

Seriously, you really can’t miss with a Tamiya. Just pick a tank ya like, and dive in![:D]

thanks guys, i was thinking tamiya, i love there auto kits!!! I used to build alot of emt/ertl and the like, until i found Tamiya!!! I was thinking of spending around 50 bucks for the kit, and maybe even some PE stuff…

Thanks again

[:D]

I have nothing better to do today than sit on the forum

Looks like we agree on a good first kit though!

I’ll have to agree with Tamiya. I would recommend the M41 or a M4, they look nice and are pretty straight forward…

I can’t believe that Tamiya hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Good armour starters - T34, Panzer III, Panzer IV, they’re newer Panthers are great kits, and of course … the Sherman

IMO avoid any DML kits for the first armour build … don’t get me wrong, they are great kits … but the indy tracks will drive a first timer crazy.

Hey Ron I see you wandered over too…I asked the guys the same question…Im doing the group build along with them…thats if I can figure out exactly what Im buying ROFL…That ??? is posted under the group build thread.
Chris

Robert, Robert! What is the world coming to??? You put German armor recomendations above a Sherman? I am blown away!

Ron, I don’t think I can add a lot to what the Tamiya Fan Club’s already said. You might want to check out this months FSM issue. It has a weekend build article on the T-34 they’ve mentioned above. Italeri’s USMC Sherman is supposed to be a pretty good build. Robert knows more about than than I. Any of the Tamiya Tigers are pretty straight forward builds, but you have to contend with the independent tracks, again.

Good luck;

Bill

I would never do that Bill … I just saved the best for last.

This ‘Ron’ stuff is confusing me.

Ron.

You think the Ron issue is bad … try and figure out the Eric dilemna.

What dilem(n)a??? [:D] Is that the Canadian spelling? [}:)] [;)]

Eric

Have you considered maybe a Tamiya Kit? Since nobody has mentioned it [:p]

A T-34 would be a good start. Maybe a Panther or Panzer.

And welcome to the wonderful world of armor [;)]

Tamiya is the one with that logo thingie at the corner of the box, right? Maybe a picture of a tank or something on the front? Aren’t they the ones coming out with the 1:1 King Tiger, optional radio control or interior?

It’s Friday and I’ve ten minutes of study hall watching left. Forgive the goofiness!

Ron.

Not Eric, Not Ron, but Ron. (the one where you say ‘Ron’ with a midwestern US accent)

PS, JR, I want to believe too… especially in a couple of months when unexpected models begin showing up under the tree from SantaRon… (Midwestern accent again please).

ok, guess what, now i’m more cunfused now then i was before…LOL… I saw a nice small Tamiya anti aircraft gun at the local hobby shop … maybe i’ll start with that!!! HAHAHAHA

hey, i found thi neat little U.S amphibian Ford Gpa by Tamiya… does this classify as armor??? or is it just tanks???
