My first Alclad bird. Curtis P-36A Hawk [1/48th]

Well, finally after about 2.5 months of work, my P-36A Hawk is done. Kinda. I’m still waiting on new “barrels” in the form of tubing. the LHS is out of the size I need right now. Anyway, this is the 1/48 Academy Kit. Its built straight from the box, except for the barrels [when they arrive]. Its kit markings, aside from the red tail band which was masked and painted instead of the decal. The finish is Alclad II Chrome over tamiya gloss black. This was my first time using any Alclad product, and I was pleased with the finish. I didnt get a perfect coat, which created a nice weathering to the metal look. I have since used Alclad again on an F4F-3 and it came out great [polished aluminum]. Anyway, here she is. And her smaller counterpart, the OLD Monogram 1/72 Hawk.

She’s purdy!!Nice job, looks great!

That’s really a nice looking Hawk there bud[tup][tup]

Well done Rob! She looks quite well done from the photos. The finish looks very shiney indeed. [tup]

Looks like you’ve been using Alclad all your life. Nice job.

Beautiful job there, Rob! Just stunning! Very pristine and I love it!

If you post more pics when you get the gun barrels…how about some shots of the underside?[tup]

Ooooh…shiney! Nicely done.

Jerry

Well done Rob [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Looks really good, Viper… (A little too new, but that’s just my thing) Tricky stuff, if ya ask me… Not sure I wanna tackle the B-29 with the stuff yet… Never tried using a black undercoat either…

Dunno if this is what you do, but I use the styrene-coated wire the either Plastruct or Evergreen puts out for 1/48 50 cal/13mm guns… I strip the stryene off the wire and ‘presto’, tiny gun tubes… There’s a larger size that works great for 20mm and such too…

Thanks guys. Once I get the barrels, I’ll be sure to get more pics, and the underside. lol. I also want to see about getting brighter lighting in my photobooth. For some reason, the pics look very dark.

Good Job Rob. I really liked seeing it in 3D on Thursday. Keep up the good work,

Joe

thanks Joe, wait till you see here finished in person.

Anyway, here are some better pics. I adjusted the lighting in my booth and its much better now. Also added a touch of weathering. Almost thinking it can go without the barrels.

Outstanding overall finish Rob!! I am using the Chrome Alclad on my Crager Rims for my 69 Nova!! All I have to say is WOW!! Love how the chrome looks…

My next Stang will be over all Polished aluminum/dura for the wings… Again great job on the 36!!

Thank you for sharing

Flaps up,

Looks great. I like the antenna work too. Well done.

Very, very Nice. That NMF is one of the best ive seen in a long time.

…Guy

Great job on the plane! I have never used Alclad but photos like that may make it happen in the near future.

Very nice work on the P-36. Your Alclad paint job came out quite well. I am about to do my first Alclad painting and I hope it comes out as well as yours did.

Now that’s a rootin’ tootin’ fighter plane if I ever saw one.

Dang gorgeous job on that!

Thanks guys. The alclad is really easy to use, just make sure you lay down a smooth as glass base coat. And I have seen where you can vary the finish tint by changing the base color for certain panels. I llike it a lot more than Floquil old/bright silver. Its smoother, more realistic, and it actually cleans up much easier than I expected.

Excellent work Rob.[tup] I like the subject and the NMF? Well you’re inspiring me to take another crack at it!

Thanks for sharing.
