Just completed this Accurate Miniatures Avenger after years of building flying models, I had this on the shelf, I used it for details on a flying model, it’s far from the best after seeing the high standard of work on this forum, I found it hard enough doing the larger flying scale detail, the work some of you do on these small scales amazes me, but anyway this is my effort.
I am no expert, the color looks to blue?, but other than that I think it looks great. The weathering looks right on, and the canopy looks clean. It’s a great build.
The photo has come out looking lighter than it is, I think doing it in artficial light with a flash, I have just done it overall with revell`s “night blue” by rights it should have been a 2 tone blue.
Well, you certainly had a great basis to start with! Good job on the Avenger, but I see in your avatar you got a huge Hurricane there. I’d love to see pics of that!
Funny, I have a similar story about a 1/32 corsair I bought to use for Pit reference on a TopFlight kit [:-^]
I think your Avenger turned out Very Nice, did the figures come with the kit also ? Hope to see you build and post some more and before I forget [#welcome]
I think you did a great job. I do agree that the color doesn’t seem right, too blue. Overall I think you should be proud of it. I like the base with the crew working on her, very cool.
A couple of pics of the Hurricane Mk 1, No P3395 based on the one flown by F.O Arthur Clowes of No1 squadron in the Battle of Britain. it is 1/4 scale making it 10ft wingspan powered by a 75cc 2 stroke.
That Hurricane is amazing. True 1/4 scale wow. Was it a kit or did you assemble it from scale plans. Either way that Hurricane is a stunner. Well done.
Look at the lower cowl. See the top of the 75cc engine sticking out of there? That probably means this airplane is powered. So yeah, I think it’s a safe bet to say it flies.
Just to update you, the crew on the Avenger is the Verlinden Productions US Navy WWII Flight Deck Crew.
I built the Hurricane from plans, and yes it will fly when I have put the electronics in, hopefullynext summer if we get some good weather and it`s a 75cc petrol engine.
Good job on both of them. You RC guys have a lot of confidence, spending all the time and money building the thing. Then go and fly it, my luck I’d crash the thing on take off and it would burn 8 feet into the take off roll. 10 foot wing span is great, I think that I would have to move a few things to make room for it, like my cars out of the garage. Please keep us updated on the Hurricane. [#toast]
Brother, you ain’t kidding. I have made many flight prototypes, all hand-sculpted taking hours of work to cut, shape, finish, and install, and the engineers bring them back from the flight range in many small pieces.
That’s a fine looking plane, sir. Tell us more about it. Does it feature flaps and gear retracts? What did you skin it with? I’m sure we would all love some first flight video when you get there.
Yes it has working flaps and retracts also Nav lights and working landing lights. The fuselage is balsa and ply, rear stringers are covered with one of the model textile coverings as per the full size.
The wings are veneered foam covered with glass cloth with pva. then with Aly foil to give the weathered look when the paint is scratched off.
Good job on the Avenger (and the Hurricane too)! Knowing a bit about photography as well, I agree with the above statement the flash overlightened the blue, so I bet it is the perfect shade of blue it is supposed to be!
