my desert combat tanks pics now taken with 5 megapixel camera

here it is.
this is my third try at this.
comments welcome[:D]

I got a new camera yesterday![:D]

Hey they look great! nice work…

Dave

jinithith2,
Your builds look fine, but I think your weathering appears to be too haphazard. It seems that some areas are real heavy while other parts of the vehicles look like they haven’t been touched. I can’t discern any rhyme or reason to your technique.
I don’t believe it’s something that can’t be corrected. Perhaps if you go back and try to tone some areas down and hit the parts that look so clean.
I don’t mean to be offensive, only trying to offer some constructive criticism [:D][:D].
Joe

The wheels on the Abrams should be painted. The mud looks Ok, although inappropriate for a desert combat tank… (I think) The pastel weathering on both of them- no offense or anything, it’s just that they don’t quite look right. Black staining like that is usually form muzzle smoke or exhaust- neither of which would appear on the front of a tank or AFV. Also, the weathering should be consistent. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like you have some paint chipping on the side of the turret- I’m not entirely sure how that could happen.

Other than that, the paint job looks pretty nice. I agree with panther 44 that it really can’t be fixed. Unless you didn’t seal the pastels with a flat coat in which case I advise you wipe them off.

If this post offends you let me know and I shall erase it…

The builds look to be well done Jin! But the suggestions made by Panther44, and Tankmaster7, are both understandable, and would not take to much work to rectify the uncharacteristic look of the weathering you have applied. The weathering you have applied appears to be more of a maintenance oily looking stain on the whole of the armor vehicles, and you can be rest assured that our “Soldiers” just don’t maintain their vehicles in that manner, even in the field. Semper Fi, Mike

thanks guys for the suggestions.
I just tried to simulate a tank that has been fighting for a length of time without real cleaning and maintainance. the two are going to be in dios, and the excessive black spots are simulated RPG bursts that I tried to recreate.
the dio is going to be “the ambush” when those two tanks are going threw a little town and they get ambushed with RPG’s, AK47’s and what not.
tankmaster- the “paintchips” are actually paintchips from bullets. do I need to make little indentations for that??

The tanks look very good to me. [tup] Wow those are some awesome shots with your camera. Clear and in focus very well. What kind of camera did you get???

I got the Nikon 5600 series-5.1megapixel.
the pics were taken with macroclose up mode

If I offended you I’m sorry. I was just making some constructive criticisms. As far as bullet marks go- I’m not sure what effects they would have- i don’t think they are powerful enough to dent armor and I’m not sure if they chip paint- (someone more expert should answer you here.) The RPG rounds would have no effect on the tanks whatsoever (damagewise) and the scorch marks should be individual- aropund each place a single RPG hit.

Again I didn’t mean to offend anyone, and good luck with the dio.

ooooh, no! tanky, I didn’t mean that!
I’m so sorry!
I was just trying to say that I try to be friendly but I can’t sometimes!
so sorry!

Try to zoom out a bit … the pic will be clearer to view …those picture a bit blur … anyway nice job done …

Glad you like your new camera! I was like that when i got mine. Sony 5.1 megapix… I went around the whole house taking pics of my collection.

Great job!

yeah, my Abrams has that on the front. the Bradley has all that “crap” on there because I just reasoned that since it’s carrying more people, the enemies think it’s a juicy chance, so it gets fired upon a lot.
again, I’m trying to simulate vehicles that go for a length of a time without real maint. or cleaning.[:D]

great models
the black marks look just like a rpg hit

there would be a small hole or dent in the center or edge of the balck mark dependant on round impact

bullet impacts would chip the paint

great job

oh and by the way, these are 1/72, just to let you know.

Very Nice work. Most Impressive. However, on the subject of RPGs, you have to be very careful. an RPG. or Rocket Propelled Grenade, is meant to take out armor. However, thanks to the spaced/Chobham armor that our vehicles are now carrying. the effect would be little more than a good shaking up with no complete hull penetration. There would, hoever, be a slight cratering of armor at the impact site. It would ve very difficult to see in 1/72 works, so do keep it subtle. Burn marks are good, but keep it in a radial pattern about the impact site.

Great shots.
Thanks for sharing.

I got a nikon camera-love to take your photograph…

Great looking Braille scale tanks Jin! I’d like to know where you got the mine plow for the Abrams in that scale! I’ve been wanting an Abrams with a plow.

Your camera is certainly an excellent one too. It takes great shots.

Two suggestions I have for really clear and sharp photos:

  1. Get a small tripod to mount the camera on. A cheap one is around 7 dollars or so.

  2. If there is a timer feature on your camera, use it. Especially if your camera is on a tripod or stand of some sort. Just set up the shit, turn on the timer, press the trigger and sit back and let it shoot. No movement will happen to blur the pic.

Good luck with your new camera. Now I can’t wait to see more of your work!
